Are you an Adoptee or Birth Parent searching for lost biological family? Need help with a Family Research project or understanding your DNA results? Whether you just need some basic guidance or need us to do all the heavy lifting – you name it! We have a ton of experience and we're really good at solving puzzles. Here's how we work:
- Once we've connected, we'll provide you with a detailed questionnaire and template for you to document what you know of your family tree. The more info you can provide the easier it will be for us to help you effectively, but no worries if you know very little - that is often the situation in adoption cases. We'll also need invitations/access to your DNA results and any FamilyTrees you may have created.
- It's important to understand that despite the research effort expended, sometimes an answer just can't be found with the information available at the time. Genealogy research is a little bit like fishing - you can have the best equipment, best bait, best secret spot - but if there aren't any fish... there aren't any fish. We can promise we'll get you as close as we can, and will help you with a list of Next Steps in order to further the research on your project over time.
- Each project is unique, and we can promise you that we will use every tool at our disposal to get the answers you're seeking, and will provide you with a detailed Research Tree and Family Booklet suitable for printing and gifting at the end of the project.
- Our basic fee to research a single unknown parent is $2000. This fee includes up to 25 hours of professional research and analysis at a discounted rate. There are some economies of scale involved in researching these cases, so we can also discount a second concurrent search, and we are happy to offer any additional promotions available at the time we book your project. Let's discuss your specific situation to determine estimated cost.
- Turnaround on most projects is about 4 weeks - 8 weeks for longer, more involved projects - although this can vary if DNA results are not yet available. We ask for 50% at the start-up of your project and the balance halfway through. For projects under 10 hours, we bill in full at the beginning of the project because of the quick turnaround. We do offer PayPal extended terms so you have the option of paying over time if you'd like to take advantage of that option. Let us know if you need additional details.
- This fee covers our research time to build a Research Tree, and to locate, store and analyze supporting records in all the research venues we utilize, a standard Gedcom export of the Research Tree and a detailed Family Booklet with images of records suitable for printing or gifting. The research venues we utilize include ancestry.com, myheritage.com, familysearch.org, johngrenham.com, rootsireland.ie, irishgenealogy.ie, and numerous other specialty databases. Out of pocket expenses to purchase original certified copies of birth/death/marriage or other documents you request, and any associated handling, will be billed back on a monthly basis.
- We are also available for project work at the rate of $100/hour, in 5-hour increments, with a 5 hour minimum.
