Steve really spent to time to ensure that my daughter and I understood how to safely operate a handgun.

He also followed up after the class to see if I had any questions and to invite me to shoot with him.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Provide basic firearms safety and proficiency training that meets your training requirement for the Florida Concealed Firearms License. I can teach the class in your home or at one of my classrooms at the Dade City Gun Club or in Lutz. For the shooting protion of the class, I can use ranges in Dade City, Tampa or Valrico.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. This is not a two hour or less quickie like at the gun show. It's a professional power point presentation with hands on training in the classroom followed up with live fire on the range.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I enjoy teaching firearms safety and watching students progress being apprehensive about picking up a gun to realizing they can safely handle and shoot one.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Working as a Range Safety Officer I saw how many people were deficient in understanding basic safety rules and the fundamentals of shooting. At the range we don't have time to teach we have to keep the firing line safe. I decided to start teaching basic gun classes so we can keep our sport safe and competent.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. I have added two 22 caliber pistols with red dot scopes that allow students to quickly meet the NRA shooting requirement. I also added several laser training aids and a laser target to my classroom training to give immediate feedback in the classroom before we go to the range and start shooting live ammunition.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Do I have to attend the range session after the classroom training?

Yes. Florida law requires the instructor to witness the student's safe handling of the firearm. The NRA is more demanding and requires the student to demonstrate the basic safety and marksmanship skills taught in class.
