Josh, I read your review Saturday morning and pondered most of the day on what I would say since Thumbtack gives me the opportunity to respond to reviews. First, thanks for the kind words regarding my glowing personality. I’m a people person. Now let’s get to the negative meat of the matter. I’ll address each point briefly. The first thing Carl and I did when we arrived was walk the areas you selected for placing the sheds and noticed there were some ground level issues and no base or slab to build the sheds on. The ground in both areas was sloped. I called you to discuss this and you said it was fine as it was. First: “…but despite providing the model numbers was unprepared for the job of assembling a prebuilt shed.” I don’t know how “prebuilt” anything can be when it shows up in 2 boxes the size of a twin bed mattress. Also when I looked at the sheds you provided the model numbers for online, there was no link to the assembling instructions book to look at to get any idea about what we were building. Second: “Had a helper but after 10 hours had only put together half of the shed. In the first seven had only laid down four flooring pieces. I think he and his helper got caught up in too much over analyzing what had to be done.” I’m including a review from another purchaser of that shed for starters. It states issues that we experienced and I brought to your attention on Friday regarding how the book and actual parts differed in their identifying codes. “I would love to give a five star rating, but the installation was just too complicated for that. Having the part numbers in the installation manual (match the) actual part numbers on the parts, would be greatly beneficial. The QRC's listed in the manual that link to lifetime videos are very helpful, but definitely viewing all the videos available online from other people who assembled the shed, is highly recommended.” What you fail to mention is that laying the floor down for the shed is step 7 or 8 in the assembly process. Initially when we opened to boxes, we had to sort and organize all the components and hardware best we could, again, considering that 80% of the parts weren’t labeled as they were listed in the instructions, but I think that’s been covered repeatedly. Once the pieces were separated and organized, the initial steps are to build all of the components first, roof trusses, installing windows in doors and the roof panels, assembling the doors with all the hardware, etc. There are approximately 20 bags of parts and hardware (nuts, bolts, screws and washers) and a few of those bags were inside other bags with different markings on them than what that step called for. At times, it resembled a frustrating scavenger hunt to find the proper components. Third: (This is my favorite part of your review. It gave me goosebumps.) “After they left I was able to finish the second half of the installation as well as a second pre built shed that was smaller by the same maker with my wife in about three hours.” As it turns out, I had another job Saturday morning on the other side of Orlando that took me past your area. One thing I noticed on Friday is that there’s a break in the hedges, which border your gated community, on Lake Vilma Drive, which luckily for me, runs right behind your house. I didn’t want to trespass as I am a law abiding citizen not looking for any trouble. So I took it upon myself to take a drive down there, parked at the school across the street and walked over to take a peek at the finished product. I did that for a couple of reasons. One, because it was quite impressive to me that you and your wife were able to complete the construction of not one, BUT two sheds, at night AND in the dark. As I stood at the opening in the hedges I can see straight into your yard where the shed was sitting. I took pictures that show the shed in the exact same condition Carl and I left it Friday evening, half finished. So you Sir, are a fabricator of reality. Fabricator, fabricator, pants on fire. And I’m pretty sure that fable can be construed as slander as you try to besmirch my otherwise excellent rating and reputation as a handyman. Fourth: “Also he cut down a portion of my tree prior to calling or asking for permission. That's a major change to do without prior permission, and was very bad form for a contractor.” I’ll give you that it MAY have been bad form for a contractor, however had you paid attention when you were plotting out placement for that particular shed, you should’ve realized that that big branch we cut back was hanging right in the area where the northeast quadrant of the shed would be sitting. The only real option was to remove the obstruction in order to accommodate your idea of where the shed should live, as there is not a lot of space back there to try shifting an 800 square foot, eight foot high shed, especially when that branch hung only 5-6 feet off the ground. Fifth: “I would trust with small jobs but would seriously think twice or require a formal estimate for anything over two hours worth of work.” I wouldn’t worry too much about you trusting me with any size jobs because I’ll be sure to avoid your posts for help in the future. I wasn’t going to go into such depth in my response, but Josh, you told an SNL Weekend Update version of what happened. Your review has more holes than the screen enclosure over your pool. My suggestion to you would be this: If the seller of a product offers to have someone come out and assembly whatever it is that you bought for a fee, just have them do it. More than likely, they have previous experience with that product, understand the half-assed identifying methods used, learned a few shortcuts and wouldn’t be so reliant on the assembly instructions. You made the choice to bypass that option and hired us and we did the best we could with the cards dealt us.
