About
I have a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies and extensive background and experience in adult and childhood learning theory and practice. I can quickly assess a student's learning needs and abilities and craft a customized guitar program, so that the student progresses quickly, does not get bored learning and is constantly motivated to improve. What I like most about teaching guitar is watching my students get the same enjoyment and thrill from learning to play the instrument, as I get from teaching them.

I have been taking lessons for about 3 months now and it's probably the best decision I have ever made. Learning from Dr. T makes playing the guitar so much fun even when it gets aggravating because you cant place your fingers on the right chords haha and best of all, he keeps you on focus. He also makes sure your technique is top notch! What's a better way to learn other than the right way?! This class is literally my getaway. I have fun while learning and it's such a stress free environment where you can literally forget about everything and just focus on the music. Highly recommended!

I started taking guitar lessons with Dr. T about two months ago. In this short period of time, I have been able to learn the fundamentals. Dr. T will teach you the proper technique, will be patient with you, and will modify lessons to fit your progress. I count that as a blessing because while I can pick up some stuff quite fast other stuff takes me longer. The Lessons are about 45 minutes; but if his and your schedule permit, he is willing to put extra time at no charge to make sure you are able to make progress consistently. One of the things that impressed me was that even on the first lesson we jumped right into it with no delays. He was very courteous and friendly, but at the same time very conscientious of your time since he understands that you want to get the most value for the price you're paying. Overall, Dr. T is a very good instructor. I had zero experience with the guitar before, and with his help I have noticed improvement already. The last thing I would have to say is that to learn to play the guitar you have to put the time, practice, be patient and committed and you will succeed.

He is the best instructor I've had. He customizes my lessons to suit what I want to play & how I learn easiest. I would definitely recommend him for anyone wanting to learn to play guitar quickly & well!

My son started taking bass guitar lessons with Dr. T about 6-months ago and we couldn't be more pleased. Dr. T is not only knowledgeable and musically talented he is excellent at teaching. His lessons seem to be task oriented but fun. It is obvious that he has a passion not only for music, but also for helping students develop their love of music. We would definitely recommend him.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

At some point in your life you have to stop going against the current and instead, start flowing with it. My greatest passion is playing the guitar. Next to that is teaching.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

First - Ask the instructor to tell you about his or her teaching philosophy and style. If s/he has to think too long about the answer or appears to be making it up on the spot, then be wary. A good instructor will respond immediately, with a good answer that should excite and motivate you. Second - Ask how many different guitar styles and techniques s/he knows, such as flat picking, finger picking, speed picking, improvising, soloing, rock style, blues style, classical style, jazz style, etc. A good instructor should know two or three styles very well and have some knowledge and skill of other styles, as well. Third - Tell the instructor what you want to get out of the lessons and then, ask him or her to tell you how s/he plans to meet your needs. Again, the answer should excite and motivate you to want to begin. Once you begin your lessons with your new instructor, then you will know soon enough, if you made the right choice.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Just because someone plays the guitar well, does not mean he or she can teach you to play well!
