Introduction: I performed professionally for over 10 years as part of a trio of a cappella-singing sisters, who also played light classical and celtic instrumental pieces on the harp, cello, violin, recorders, and bagpipes. We performed at many weddings, dinner parties, and shows, and were able to set moods ranging from comedic to reverent. So I have a lot of professional experience in figuring out what you need to do, to get pieces performable, and enjoyable for audiences, fast. My particular strength is showing beginning and intermediate musicians how to arrange the music they want to play, so that they can play it -now-, with their current instruments and at their current skill level. I feel that music is about communication, and that you don't have to wait until you are an "expert" to be able to make others happy with music. My favorite part of teaching music is getting to share the enjoyment of music with others.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$25/lesson. Lessons are usually an hour.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For adults, first lesson I sit down with them and assess where they are now, and discuss with them their musical goals. Then we discuss a path to reach those goals. For children, I discuss the musical goals with their parent. Typically the goals are to achieve basic proficiency in sight reading and theory. Then I sit down with the child to see where they are now.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although I had years of music lessons in various instruments and voice, I found my most valuable educational experience was performing professionally. When someone's wedding is directly affected by the mood you set, it clarifies what you need to be doing. In addition to 10+ years performing with my 2 sisters, I developed some expertise at sound engineering. I ran the sound board for a large church choir for a year, and also for a local band. I have an MS in Electrical Engineering, which helped with that. Other activities include performing with a volunteer bagpipe band which had approx. 30-45 performances a year), and helping organize a youth choir.
