I had the privilege of Luis, the owner of Piano Tech, tune my 100-year-old Bush and Lane piano. He also repaired several keys that were misaligned and now they work perfectly again. How did you get started doing this type of work?
Good old curiosity. Always has been natural to work with my hands...
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
120 year old Steinway upright action rebuild. Put on new bass strings, new German hammers, new whippens, new dampers, restored the Ivories, refinished the ebonies, new key bushings, polished the pedals and tuned it four times before delivering.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I can't speak for everyone but make sure they care about their work, get along with your animals and are on time :)
