How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a little girl, I always gave massages to my family and friends. Then I was in an auto accident in 2006. I went through treatment through my PIP plan, and started receiving massage. I had already had slight scoliosis, but the accident exacerbated it, making it worse. I had also suffered severe whiplash. My massage Therapist that was helping me through it was great! She was highly knowledgeable and very experienced. She helped me a lot! Shortly after that, I realized that I wanted to make people feel good and heal them with touch.
What types of customers have you worked with?
My most common services are deep tissue or sports. I work on a lot of athletes that are either preparing for a Marathon and post (after) Marathon. I also have a lot of auto accidents, which require special attention, and proper techniques.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I have a client and she tried everything! She was always in constant pain, recovering migraines, and was receiving massage with another provider. She was getting more relaxation then deep tissue. She came to me initially a month ago, and ever since she has been coming on a weekly basis. She thought she was going to have to result to injections or even surgery! I advised her to try out my plan, and I promise she will see results. It has now been two months, and her last session was a success. She said that she doesn't remember the last time that she has been able to go more than a week with relief. She has also been very active and can continue just coming in for monthly maintenance.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Being professional is key, and knowledgeable. JUST because someone has the title of a massage Therapist, if they can't educate you, the client on muscles being affected, giving you stretches or advising you on what to do to prevent further injury, then you need to seek out someone who can. As a massage Therapist, I am always communicating with my client about what is going on with their body and what they can do to help themselves at home.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
In my spare time, I am always reading up on the latest techniques around and finding new things to add to my service.
