What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Trips on the boat are $120 an hour. Beach sharking trips are $650. Wading trips vary in cost and I prefer to do them in late summer and the fall!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yeah, I go fishing and drive a boat almost everyday!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been taking friends and family fishing for many years. Often, after catching something big or a mess of fish - they would say, "man, you should take people fishing for a living". So I finally cashed-in my 401k, bought a boat and, well..... here we are!
What types of customers have you worked with?
My most common trips are trolling and shark fishing adventures; but i can take you bottom fishing, flats fishing, flounder gigging, bow fishing and wading as well!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I like it when kids tell their Dad/Mom, "this is the most fun I've ever had". or when someone says, "this is the biggest fish I've ever caught". which i get very often!!!!!!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Watch-out for guys who say, "yeah we can take you to catch snapper, grouper etc etc". If they are out of season some guys tend to leave-out the fact that you can't keep them! Also I won't knowingly take you out if the conditions are bad for fishing, rough, or otherwise uncomfortable. I'd rather have you come see me over and over again than take your money once and have you be unhappy or even miserable! I turn people away if I think it is going to be rough or nothing is going to be biting due to wind direction etc.!
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I live to fish! I spend all my time thinking of how to better catch fish, and improve my vessel. I often lose sleep over it! Don't you want that kind of obsession in your guide?
