About
I am Life Master Theo Slade. I learned how to play chess when I was 6 and I have been playing for 14 years. I was England's top scorer at the World U16 Olympiad in China as an U12 and I have been writing a monthly column for the British Chess Magazine since I was 12; I am the youngest ever writer for the world's oldest chess journal!

My son started getting into chess a few years ago, he's 16 now, and after attending a few local chess club tournaments in our area, he decided to try his hand at a more state-wide tournament in Orlando. It was here that we found a flyer for Mr. Slade's one-on-one chesslessons, and decided to give them a try. I am SO glad we did.
Mr. Slade is very knowledgeable, has great teaching skills, and is very accomplished at tailoring his classes to get the most out of his pupils. He is very astute at identifying the areas most in need of attention, and applies game tactics and challenging questions to address those areas of need. Not only that, but I know my son's progress from his time with Mr. Slade has enabled him to keep his interest in playing, and at the time of this writing my son is ranked in the top 100 for players under 21 in the U.S. who play Blitz style chess, which is a form of chess most prevalent in smaller, weekly, club-related tournaments where the amount of time to play the game is limited to around 10 minutes.
This brings me to another point I'd like to make about Mr. Slade. His teachings stick with his students. I truly believe that with Mr. Slade's help, my son's strategy and quickness to evaluate his move options have greatly increased, and is a contributing factor to my son's success when playing Blitz-style chess. It is this type of result that cannot be appreciated enough when it comes to this game. I can't recommend Mr. Slade enough.

My two kids love learning chess with Theo. He is always on time, engaged during the lessons, and makes recommendations for what we can do outside to improve their game. We love working with him!

Incredibly practical teaching style. I can truly appreciate a tutor that gets straight to the point, doesn't focus on fluff and provides the most concise explanations that dilute a game as complex as chess down to its finer parts in a digestible way. A lovely experience working with Theo thus far and I look forward to continue learning from his expertise.

Theo is an amazing chess instructor, he was absolutely wonderful with my son (8). He adjusts the lessons to his skill level seamlessly, and he provides not just guidance in chess, but in life lessons (not giving up, focusing on learning from your mistakes). If you are looking for a superb chess instructor I highly recommend Theo!

Really enjoy working with Theo! He keeps things simple but really does feel like he knows what your weaknesses are, and he knows what he's talking about!
