Before booking with KaCee, I had decided to use the band that my friend had booked for her wedding a month before mine, because the price was too good to be true and they promised the world. They were TERRIBLE and in this case she got exactly what she paid for. I didn't have the heart to tell my friend what I thought, but I was in a panic to find someone else and willing to lose the deposit with the other band. A friend introduced me to KaCee and I cannot be more grateful! She was very friendly and professional, helped me to feel calm, and even though it was short notice and a lot of her DJ's and bands were booked, she told me about a jazz group that she had that would really go well with my retro theme. We had a piano, drums, guitar, trumpet, and sax. It was the best time of my life and my guests could not stop raving about them! The musicians were so talented, and more than exceeded my expectations. I would recommend anyone to use her to book your music for any event. Truly a professional!

I attended Luis's 60th Birthday Bash this past summer (2014), where he provided the music and hosted as the DJ for the evening. He played an assortment of music, from rock to disco, to latin. It was very enjoyable and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. In addition , he MC'd a dress-up contest where some of the men at the party were made-up as women. It was a fun time where we could just have a few laughs and enjoy one another's company. I would certainly recommend Luis's services for any event. Not only is the music upbeat and fun to dance to, but Luis's humor and down-to-earth attitude will put everyone at ease. He's a real crowd won't be disappointed!

We provide a variety of music entertainment services so that we are your one stop shop for every event! Overview MAKAIO is an original one man band consisting of LIVE vocals and LIVE instrumentation with professional background accompaniment creating a full band sound at a one man price! Bio MAKAIO (muh-kah-yo) produces, performs, writes and records all of his own music. He is professionally-trained in music and theatre and has been performing professionally virtually since birth. MAKAIO's love of music has no bounds as he has personally performed and written music of virtually every genre (alphabetically): Acoustic, Blues, Broadway, Christian, Classical, Country, Electronic, Instrumental, Jazz, Pop, Reggae, Rock, Soul, Spiritual, World and more. MAKAIO's own music reaches into the depth of your soul with meaningful reflections and vision for what will be. MAKAIO's music is upbeat and explosive and simultaneously subtle and provocative. His melodies will hook you and his lyrics will dwell within. MAKAIO began his career in entertainment at the age of 3 performing in his first television commercial by crossing his eyes to look at himself. Perhaps, that's when the introspection began. Always more fascinated with why we do things than what we do, by the age of 7 MAKAIO was performing with the National Broadway Touring Company of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice's Evita under the direction of Harold Prince. A musical that dealt with politics, promiscuity, power and ulterior motives, MAKAIO was exposed to the “man behind the curtain” at a very young age and was quickly perceiving, both on and off stage, the full spectrum of who we are. By his early teens MAKAIO had begun writing about his thought-provoking experiences, using song and performance art as his mode of expression. Songs like “Stimulus”, “How the World Shines Bright”, “Just Playin'” and others captured this quest for understanding. Winning first in state in solo snare drum as a teen and functioning as percussion section leader for a variety of concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, pit bands and more, MAKAIO spent a great deal of time drumming and singing from one band to the next as he continued to write music. As both an accomplished musician and actor, MAKAIO chose to study abroad after high school when he auditioned and was accepted into the highly selective British American Drama Academy (BADA) in Oxford, England and was chosen again from that select group to be one of just a handful of students to work directly with the esteemed Sir Benjamin Kingsley (Ghandhi, Schindler's List, Iron Man 3, etc.) who personally directed MAKAIO as Romeo in Romeo & Juliet. When he returned to the states, MAKAIO shifted his focus back to music where he auditioned and was accepted into the highly selective esteemed School of Music conservatory at De Paul University in Chicago, IL, USA. There his songwriting blossomed, as did his musical abilities, and he went on to graduate with Honors in Vocal Performance. Since then, MAKAIO has continued experimenting with and exploring a variety of musical forms and theatrical experiences. In addition to music, he has written several plays including a dramatically staged theatrical production showcasing his own music to sold out performances. A big fan of experimental bands, MAKAIO has been influenced by bands of all genres and especially those with an "epic" or unique sound and those that implement the theatrical and orchestral into their music. MAKAIO is also greatly influenced by groups with outstanding drummers and those that implement a variety of rhythm making as an integral part of the music. As a result, the music of MAKAIO is an eclectic mix of influences from all time. The sound result is truly unique unto MAKAIO. We hope you will experience and enjoy MAKAIO! MAKAIO would love to bring his musical experience to you! Contact MAKAIO for more information! Music, people, fun, creating, expressing, sharing, enjoying!

I am a one-man band who plays keyboards, acoustic piano, saxophone, flute, clarinet, and vocals. I can play Palm Beach repertoire, background piano music for parties 'conversational tinkle', jazz piano, standards, and switch to my Korg PA800 keyboard for classic rock, with midi tracks I write myself, or MP3s. I also play professional-quality alto sax, flute, and clarinet during the gig, if required. I had a big band for years down here, and played up and down the coast. I am also an orchestral arranger.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
