FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
A few years ago a friend of mine started a cat-sitting business. I begged for months to send some work my way - we live in different counties. I didn't have the money to hire a professional to set up a website, so finally I decided just to make a website on my own. I didn't think I had it in me, but I did! I'm so glad that I can maintain my own website. When I got too many calls about rescuing cats, I added a page to my website to direct the clients to no-kill shelters, When the Humane Society offered a reduced price on cat adoptions, I was able to inform my customers. My website is always up-to-date.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A client's cat fell into the swimming pool. I didn't even think before I removed my shoes and jumped in to get it. (I can't swim). I managed to coax the cat over to the steps so he could get out. He was too mad to let me dry him. I called the emergency vet and they told me to turn the thermostat up so the cat wouldn't get chilled. The next day when I went back, the cat was fine.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Cat's are happiest in their own home. They don't like to have their daily routines disrupted. Boarding a cat exposes it to illness, the stress of barking dogs, and the probability of being caged. One client told me her cat couldn't walk after being in a cage for 3 weeks. I play with the cats and they get plenty of exercise. I love the kitties and the cats and the clients know it.
