About
Hi! I have been teaching the cello for over 15 years and I am currently on faculty at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. I have studied with great cello teachers during my bachelors, masters and post masters degrees. My principal teachers include Orlando Cole, Melissa Kraut, Han Jorgen Jensen, David Ying, David Cole, David Requiro, John Kadz and Desmond Hoebig. I have been in masterclasses with Mischa Maisky, Matt Haimovitz, Raphael Wallfisch, Johannes Moser, Lynn Harrell, and Richard Aaron. From my experience as a student, I have gained valuable knowledge on how to teach. A lot of my students have trained for pre-college and college auditions and have had great success. I have taken Suzuki Teacher Certification courses for cello pedagogy and have been a member of Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestras in Ontario, Canada. If you have any questions, I would be happy to help!

Mr. Goering is a truly excellent teacher. We are so lucky to have found him! My daughter switched from violin to cello and her progress on cello has been amazing. He is meticulous in teaching technique. Mr. Goering is also a very kind person and a beautiful cellist and we're so happy to know him

Mr. Joe is an excellent cello teacher. He has patience and when our child does not understand a concept, he takes the time to explain it in different ways. His lessons are also very extensive and weve seen a lot of improvement in our childs ability to play the cello.

Joe has been an absolutely amazing teacher. He is patient and takes time to work with my daughter on the things she is having trouble with and is very encouraging. If you are looking for a cello teacher, Joe is the guy. Hands down.

Joe Goering is the best cello teacher I have ever had, and I have had a few well-known very good teachers. Just take a lesson from him - you will see. He is keenly observant, curious about your playing, exacting but encouraging, musical beyond belief, a master technician and organizer of musical phrasing, flexible about what you want to learn. I am pretty advanced but he also loves working with beginners. If you don't have time to practice (life as an adult student), he understands but he makes you want to practice just the same. Just take a lesson, you won't be sorry.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $50 for 30 minutes, $75 for 45 minutes and $100 for an hour.
The first lesson is free and I provide free lessons for student referrals.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During the free trial lesson, I introduce myself and get to know the student before starting with teaching. I like to know the student’s plans and goals. I am a big believer in helping my students play with ease. So I assign scales, etudes, and short pieces before working on any major sonatas or concertos. Developing practice habits that will create progress is a key philosophy to me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor and Masters degree from Lynn Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida. I also have a Performance Certificate from Mount Royal Academy and an Artist Diploma from The Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto, Canada where I studied with John Kadz and Desmond Hoebig. After graduating, I performed with three professional orchestras in Ontario and maintained a large cello studio.
