Thumbtack. He arrived on time and was extremely knowledgeable and a really nice guy. The call was to fix a leaking toilet. I decided to have all 3 of my toilets updated. He told me it was better to just replace the toilets since my home was 10 years old. I was charged $525 to replace the tank kits. After the repair, the toilet was still leaking. I was told that fixing one thing doesn't always solve your problem. I replied that as the plumbing specialists, I needed him to advise me on a solution to correct the issue completely. He gave me a box of universal flappers that he said were easy to install and would more than likely complete the repair. He looked at my water heater and my current water pressure and confirmed I was heading for a bigger issue. The pressure was at 130 psi. He then replaced my PRV ($695), Expansion Tank ($295) Main Valve ($325). I was told he would return to replace the Water Heater in which I was quoted $1800. Before he could replace it, he stated that my Heater was partially enclosed which was against the law, so he needed to demo the wall so that he could remove the 15 year old water heater which he billed me $400 foe the demolition. At that point I decided to do more research. I found his prices were the higher end of the price ranges that I found. So now I have paid $2230 and learned from an inspector I called that the partial enclosure of the water heater was within code. I now have to pay to have the wall replaced. I was able to buy the Water Heater from Home Depot for $679 and allowed one of their contractors to install it for $400. Moral of this story, watch out for the solo companies or technicians that overload you with too much knowledge and convince you that the major companies will charge you much more; that he only want to help. This was a costly mistake and bad judgement of character. He also stated that putting the flappers in each toilet myself would save me another $400 after is said he would come back to install them for free due to him feeling bad that his repair did not fix the initial issue. Beware folks. Ben requested that I not call him through the Thumbtack number or text messages. That should have been my heads up that I was about to go on an expensive ride.
