Michael is absolutely amazing! He has single-handed renewed my trust that there are genuine Personal Injury attorneys out there. He was completely honest with me about my case and whether he thought it would be beneficial for me to seek representation. We spoke at length and he freely gave me recommendations and advice as to how to proceed with my case without an attorney. I have his number locked in my cell and plan on calling him if I ever have a similar situation in the future as well as referring him to anyone I know who needs a good, honest and knowledgable Personal Injury attorney who is truly "for the people". AND he's not only knowledgeable about the law but he's a really good guy...very personable...we talked like old friends. Thanks Michael!

I must say that until I met Justin Chin and retained him my opinion of attorneys was not a good one. I thought they were all the same and that they were crooks. Justin has showed me what a an attorney that actually cares about his clients looks like and has been there for me daily through a nasty child custody case. He has always responds quickly, via text, calls and emails, day or night and his pricing is very fair. I admire is calming manor and his confidence. He is also a Christian man that allows God to direct his steps with his cases. I would be a nervous wreck if I didn't have Justin's professionalism guiding me and representing me. I am so grateful that I was able to retain such a great quality attorney and that he has the Experience needed to take my case. Justin also is going to do my taxes. I will always refer my friends to Justin if they ever have to endur the stress of a divorce or custody case. He doesn't just represent you he puts his heart into his cases and always goes above and beyond any expectation that was set. Thank you for everything Justin. May God always bless and keep you.

Found him on Thumbtack and met with him after consulting three other attorneys. His price was less than half of other attorneys and asked and answered all my questions with kindness. He didn't promise any certain amount like other attorneys do to lure you in even though they really don't know how it will turn out. Honest and Knowledgeable. I am so happy I found him.

Filing for bankruptcy can be an overwhelming and trying time for someone. I searched thumbtack for local attorneys who specialized in bankruptcy cases. Of the individuals who responded, Turkessa was the most professional and prompt. I found her rates affordable and she successfully helped file my case. I was totally clueless to how this all works and do not intend to be in the same predicament again. However, Turkessa was very knowledgable and discussed the best options for someone in my position. All I had to do was provide what information I could and she took it from there! Communication was key, and Turkessa kept me informed of everything I needed to do in order to be successfully released from debt. I would recommend her services to anyone in the same unfortunate financial situation.

I’ve never seen two harder working attorneys than Brian and Teresa. They give the upmost commitment to every case and consistently deliver the highest value results to their clients. Unlike their competition, they are available at all times and treat each client as if they were family. I would highly recommend The Ross Law Firm to anyone – you won’t find two better people to work on your behalf.

Ms. Bergstrom was very pleasure to speak with. She wasn't like most attorneys get to the point because all the other conversation is not important. Everything I said she listened to. Can't wait to work with her.

I researched many attorneys before deciding to use Allison. She was the only one who answered all of my questions in a manner I could understand (not using a lot of legal jargon over my head), did not rush me, made me feel just as important as a big time client, was extremely patient, thorough, and even reviewed some items for me not on my “list.” Some attorneys only care about money, it’s very evident she cares about helping her clients in a straight forward, go getter, prompt manner. Could not recommend her more for items big and small!

Eric is a fantastic attorney. He helped me to stay focused throughout my contempt hearing and child support modification. He is patient and doesn't spend more time than is needed on an issue. He quickly understood the background of my case and did an excellent job of representing me in court.

I was just like and other person looking for a strong professional personable attorney who was willing to work with me and fight for two of my cases in Fulton and Cobb county ... yes TWO of my (at the time) Pending DUI cases in the state of Georgia. I found all of that with calling Mr. Rosenbloom through thumbtack. The moment I called was a fresh breath of air. Mr Rosenbloom jumped right into my cases actually took the time to listen to me and instantly set up a time to personally meet to discuss my cases. Mr. Rosenbloom went over his expectations as needed from me and vice versa. My career was on the line and I was reassured that with the knowledge and functional expertise that Mr. Rosenbloom possesses, he was confident that he would do everything in his will power to Dismiss or Reduce the pending charges. Mr Rosenbloom was very attentive, consistently updated me via email, phone calls and via text message over the course of fighting my cases. The team that Mr. Rosenbloom works with is phenomenal as well! I never felt any type of way, mistreated nor misinformed and was treated like an actual human being. The end result was Mr. Rosenbloom getting both of my DUI cases Dismissed.. yes BOTH DISMISSED! I am a real person with a true testimony and my life changed for the better. With the help of Mr. Rosenbloom, I was able to save my career and move forward with my life. Please take some time to reach out to Mr. Rosenbloom and his team. Let this life changing experience touch yours or someone you may know! He is worth it and so is your life! Please reach out to Brandon Rosenbloom. Let him fight for you as he did for me!

Carl has been my personal and corporate attorney for 10 years now. He is nothing less than amazing. He can take an irate client who is unreasonable (me) and bring me around to a reasonable understanding and conclusion to the problem. Unlike most attorneys I never feel he is "running up the bill". He is level headed, fair, and a great negotiator. I have happily recommended him to friends and fellow CEOs. Another flaw of mine is that I WANT IT NOW; and Carl has been more than responsive every time I had an urgent need.

After several years of financial struggle, I made the difficult decision to contact an attorney to weigh the pros/cons of filing for a Chapter 7. I solicited recommendations from friends and family members. I contacted several of those recommended, but Gina was the only who returned my call in a timely manner. She was always to the point and very clear on all the details involving my Chapter 7 filing. Throughout the whole process, there were no surprises, and all went smoothly through the case discharge. I would definitely recommend her for anyone considering filing. In fact, because of my experience with her, I now think people who are struggling should not think twice as I did for so long, especially with good lawyer like Gina on their side!

Daniele handled my divorce. As a male being abused by a female, it was nice that Daniele understood my situation and stood up for me. She is open and fair with billing. While I've heard many stories of other people's lawyers sneaking in charges on billing, Daniele does not operate this way. I would definitely recommend her.

Ms. Watson is a life saver. After being told by two other attorneys that I didn't have a case, I met with Ms. Watson. She took the time to listen to me and explained that it was going to be tough. She kept me updated on all that was going on throughout the case. And the best part was we won! I can't thank her enough for taking my case."

Thought I was screwed. Contacted several different attorneys before being referred to Mrs. Lewis. Was told by all of them there was nothing they could do, or they wanted to charge me thousands of dollars. But not Mrs. Lewis. She was more than determined to help me with my case and didn't charge me an arm and a leg for her help. Anytime I needed her she was available to speak with. I never felt worried about my case. I never had to walk in a courtroom and she got my charges dropped. I don't know how she did it but she is a master at what she does. If you hire someone else, you're making a mistake. Best lawyer I've ever had.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
