Introduction: Becker Law LLC can help you form or expand a business, develop and negotiate business-friendly, plain-language contracts, register trademarks or copyrights, and protect your intellectual property. We also offer subscription legal services as an alternative to in-house counsel. At Becker Law LLC, we’ve developed a "Client Bill of Rights", so you know exactly what to expect from us throughout our attorney-client relationship. These Client Bill of Rights represents our priority in providing clients with the attentive service they expect and deserve, at a cost-effective price. If we don't meet our obligations under the Client Bill of Rights, you can make a “satisfaction adjustment” (up or down) to your final bill—that's how confident we are of the value of our legal services.

I've enjoyed a long and rewarding business relationship with Steve since 1999. His understanding of my business, responsiveness, business acumen, keen insights, and legal counsel have been invaluable. I've counted on Steve as a committed business partner, not just an attorney giving advice. I've successfully worked with other lawyers, but Steve's legal knowledge, work ethic, and friendly nature has been a perfect fit for me. Steve always explains the legal issues and requirements in a way that is easily understood, which helps me to explain to others and complete projects quickly. I've made referrals to Steve countless times over the years, and in every case, I've received very appreciative and positive feedback. Steve Becker has been my "go-to" attorney for two decades. His legal expertise, business understanding, and common-sense approach and advice are second to none. Steve is honest, candid, and great to work with. I highly recommend Steve without reservation.

My project team and I had some fairly extensive challenges in negotiating and documenting a strategic alliance with the owner of certain complementary technology. Steve worked tirelessly to put together a crystal-clear strategic alliance agreement that comprehensively addressed the parties' concerns, rights and responsibilities, particularly in the area of intellectual property ownership. Although Steve is one of the busiest and hardest working professionals I know, he always made time to answer my questions.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Although an hourly rate may be displayed with my profile, it is rare for Becker Law LLC to bill by the hour. Our approach to pricing is different than most firms. We use a “Value Pricing” model that sets fees based on the value provided to you, rather than the work done by Becker Law as the attorney. Here’s why we do this: Legal advice for small businesses is often out of reach because of high hourly rates typically charged by law firms. Most law firms charge you by the hour in 6-minute increments, and demand thousands of dollars in retainers up-front, all of which really adds up. The result is unpredictable costs; even if you know what the hourly rate is, how many hours is the work going to take? Five? Fifteen? One hundred? When you ask your attorney about what your matter will cost, the usual response is: “It depends on the complexity of the matter and what issues may arise”. This isn’t helpful when you’re trying to work within a budget. Budgets require that you know what you’re going to spend on a legal matter before you engage an attorney. Also, hourly billing has many drawbacks: (a) it rewards inefficiency and incentivizes attorneys to bill more hours even when it isn’t justified; the more time attorneys spend on a matter, the more money they make, (b) costs are difficult to forecast; all attorneys can say is costs depend on how much time your matter takes, resulting in unwelcome surprises when the final bill arrives, and (c) it interferes with communications between attorneys and clients since the more a client speaks to their attorney, the more they have to pay. Instead of billing exclusively by the hour, Becker Law uses Value Pricing whenever possible. Value Pricing (a) rewards attorneys for being more efficient in handling a matter, (b) provides clients with fixed fees so that they know what to expect and can budget accordingly, and (c) allows clients to communicate freely with their attorneys, without worrying about breaking that budget. Becker Law’s Value Pricing consists of: On-demand legal packages for short-term engagements such as (a) on-demand counseling, and (b) on-demand projects. Monthly subscription legal plans go beyond short-term engagements and address the needs of clients who require on-going legal support, but who aren’t ready to hire a full-time attorney. Subscription legal plans are designed to continuously address your legal needs without worrying about hourly billing running up the tab. Through our subscription legal plans, your organization gets a continuing relationship with an experienced lawyer who has in-depth knowledge of you and your organization, as well as of the laws affecting your business, at a fraction of the fully-loaded costs of in-house counsel. Of course, where on-demand packages or subscription plans aren’t possible, or simply don’t make sense for your matter, Becker Law will give you our best estimate of the range of costs that might be incurred on an hourly basis. For creatives, startups, small businesses and ongoing recurring clients, we offer a discounted rate of 10% of our standard rate.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The goal of Becker Law's representation for its clients is “Frictionless” customer service. You won't have to fight for the attention you deserve or beg to be kept in the loop. We provide prompt responses to communications from clients (within 24 business hours), as well as regular status updates—and we do it all without including confusing or intimidating legal jargon.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Becker Law LLC owner, Steve Becker, is an accomplished Georgia business, contracts, and intellectual property attorney with more than three decades of experience. Steve uses his comprehensive knowledge of the legal system and business world to help freelancers, startups, and small and medium businesses achieve their goals. Having gotten his feet wet working in a general practice firm, Steve soon found his niche as an attorney and general counsel for major corporations—including a $10 billion-plus subsidiary of a well-known conglomerate that boasts more than $45 billion in annual revenue. In his more than 35 years of practice, Steve has consistently demonstrated adept negotiation, organization, and leadership skills. He’s earned a well-deserved reputation for delivering innovative legal and business solutions that are tailored to his client's specific needs and resources. Steve possesses in-depth and wide-ranging knowledge of the complex legal issues businesses can face regarding matters such as: Entity formation Contract drafting, review, and negotiation Intellectual property licensing and development Regulatory compliance Trade practices Commercial transactions and agreements Privacy Risk management Franchising and distribution Manufacturing and product liability Leasing Warranties Consumer protection Antitrust and competition Advertising and marketing e-Commerce and Internet law
