How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've been sewing since I was 12, my mother is a seamstress, and her mother was a seamstress. So I guess you can say, "It's in my genes" :-) It wasn't until 2010 that I decided to sew for hire. The economy was bad, and I had a skill (sewing) that I wasn't using fully, that could help me support my family. So, it kind of took off from there.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Dresses, skirts, and alterations.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
My favorite story is that I got to make an informal wedding gown for a client. We had a few hiccups along the way, but everything worked out in the end. She invited me to her wedding and to see her walk down the isle in a garment that I made was truly gratifying :-)
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish that clients really comprehended how much time, effort, consideration, and detail goes into making a garment. When you buy a garment from a store, that garment went down an assembly line, and several peoples hands touched it/worked on it. But when you purchase a custom made garment, only one persons hand finished every detail to give you a beautiful finished product.
