Introduction
I have loved numbers since I started school. I think I would have been a mathematician, but calculus killed me. My favorite subject is algebra. I love it. As a kid, I remember having the one-minute drills and loved the competition. My love of numbers has led me to a career in bookkeeping. I understand the story that numbers tell and like nothing more than helping others understand them.
My tutoring experience started while in grade school and hasn't stopped. I have tutored graduate school classmates in statistics, worked with Champion Learning Center (in NY) to tutor HS students, and I am currently tutoring my sisters in college. In helping students understand the subjects that are most troubling to them, I only ask that they stop saying, "I hate __________!". Getting students to accept that a particular subject is difficult and possible to understand is the key to them understanding that they can conquer it.
Excel is probably my favorite program. I have been using it for over 20 years, beginning with my summer jobs. I taught myself how to use it. I have created elaborate spreadsheets using the program and continuously teach myself anything that I want to do with it.
By profession, I am a bookkeeper, so I use QuickBooks quite a bit and know that I can teach you the basics. By the nature of my profession, I have taught many people how to use Excel and QuickBooks. To date, I have not found anyone whom I cannot teach.
In addition to the subjects and topics discussed, I can aid students with general homework help, study skills, all math subjects leading up to algebra/college algebra (preferably not geometry) and French 1.
I tend to request the syllabus for each class, so that I am aware of how fast the class is progressing. The syllabus also aids in creating the lessons for the student and how to integrate lessons for maximum impact and understanding.
I can come to the student. All I ask is for a quiet study place. If one cannot be provided, we can meet at my house or at a place near the student.
I look forward to working with you and know that there is no subject that is too difficult to understand!
