Ray is the best teacher you’ll ever find! You won’t find a teacher like him, especially considering the quality of his lessons, the time and check-ins he provides throughout the week, and the incredibly competitive pricing for a one-hour session. I started wanting to learn only jazz / piano theory but finding great pleasure in starting from the beginning and learning the foundation.
I’ve been playing and off since I was five years old, but in just two sessions, Ray was able to assess my musical level and recommend the appropriate course of action and plan. I picked back up again as an adult learner because I needed music to heal a specific area in my life.
In just two months, I’ve been able to play one octave scale in all 12 keys with the correct fingerings—something that was impossible for me to accomplish for years. But most importantly, I’m finding passion and value in my practice time, which is accelerating my learning and increasing my satisfaction as an intermediate musician.
I highly recommend Ray and encourage you to book him as soon as possible before he’s all booked up!

Ray is a very great piano teacher. He knows what he’s doing. He’s honest about what you need to improve on but he’s patient as well. I was hesitant to book him at first because during the trial lesson, I was nervous to show where I was at on my skills with the piano but once I decided to go with him, the more I worked with him, he’s the real deal.
He’s knows everything from music theory, playing by ear, and he’s affordable which is the main reason why I searched for another piano teacher. My lessons are virtual and they have been going by well so far. He emails you a recap after every lesson as well as your homework assignment. At the end of the day, how much practice you do is what’s going to determine how far you will get when it comes to becoming a great musician.
I would highly recommend Ray to anyone looking to take piano lessons with a great teacher. You won’t be disappointed.

I took about a handful of piano lessons several years ago and recently decided I wanted to give it another try. All my colleagues possess artistic talents outside their careers, and I want to bring something to the table. Ray Akers absolutely helped me achieve that goal! He thoroughly coursed me through the basics, techniques, and exercises until I had a comfortable understanding. He is no stranger to constructive criticism, but he also points out my strengths and encourages improvement through independent practice. Before I knew it, I was reading sheet music while playing without sweating profusely! A very diverse and talented musician himself, he helped me uncover my own niche in music genres. I have an entirely new perception and level of appreciation now when enjoying a live performance or listening to an album. I'm so glad I got more than I expected from his instruction. Mr. Akers is punctual, professional, technical and always ready to share his knowledge and joy of musical expression. I would definitely recommend him to a friend!

Neither my daughter (age 8) nor I have previous experience with playing any instruments. Mr. Akers has been working with my daughter for nearly 3 months, and she has made impressive progress. He is very professional, a skilled teacher, and makes understanding how to read the music and play the piano a pleasant experience. I was so impressed with my daughter's progress that I have started taking lessons as well. After just 2 sessions, I recognize the keys and can read/play a very basic piece (Mary Had A Little Lamb/Frere Jacques). I would certainly recommend giving Mr. Akers a try if your are interested in learning to play the piano-I am sure you won't be disappointed.
