FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I ask about their goals and challenges - what do they want this design to do? what purpose will it serve? what challenges will they solve with their service, product, event and/or campaign. Then, I ask what do they want the design to look like, or what feel do they want the design to deliver. From there, I move forward with sketching and creating different, multiple concepts of the design. After they pick one that satisfies them the most, I complete any other edits requested and prepare the final design for their targeted platform (print, web, digital, etc).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I minored in Art in college, taking courses (Intermediate Photography, Video and Animation Studio, Digital Art) that improved my skills in composition and visual literacy, skills crucial in graphic design. Also, I continually educate myself with textbooks about graphic design, online forums, and blogs/websites dedicated to developing the professional skills of graphic designs (i.e. AIGA, Smashing Magazine, Creative Bloq).
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It started with t-shirt designs. From a few ideas I had for my sophomore class t-shirt in high school, I sketched some ideas out and created them in Microsoft Word, with text boxes and a blank t-shirt image as my canvas. After that, I moved on to Microsoft Paint and, after a Digital Art class in college, to Adobe Creative Suite, making fliers for Gospel Choir concerts, Black Student Alliance meetings, and, professionally, stock photos for mobile app company and posters for businesses and non-profit organizations.
