Hi, I’m Jaila! the trainer behind Heart of a Dog Training. I’m a professional balanced dog trainer with over seven years of experience helping dogs and their owners build calmer, more manageable lives together.
I specialize in basic obedience, leash walking, puppy training, potty and crate training, household manners, reactivity, separation anxiety, and other behavioral concerns.
I offer private lessons beginning at $125 and personalized two-, three-, and four-week board-and-train programs. My board-and-train dogs stay and train in a real home environment, allowing us to work on the everyday behaviors that matter most—not just commands in a controlled setting. Programs also include owner education and follow-up support so progress can continue at home.
My approach is centered on structure, communication, confidence, and understanding the individual dog. The goal isn’t to create a robot—it’s to help you understand your dog and build a healthier relationship that works in real life.

I recently adopted my pet Lab Retriever/mix Bruno, who is around 10 months old. He is VERY energetic and was doing all the "bad" stuff such as biting, jumping on people, and chewing everything in sight. In a few training sessions, he has improved so much! Thanks Heart of a Dog!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by learning about your dog’s age, history, daily routine, training experience, and specific concerns. From there, I recommend either private lessons or the board-and-train program that best fits your goals. We then confirm scheduling, complete the necessary forms, and create an individualized training plan. Owner education and continued support are included so you feel confident maintaining your dog’s progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated as a professional dog trainer from Jo-Thor’s Dog Trainers’ Academy and have over seven years of hands-on experience working with dogs of different ages, breeds, temperaments, and behavioral needs.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
My interest in dog training began with my own dogs. I wanted to better understand their behavior and learn how to communicate with them effectively, which led me to attend professional dog-training school. What started as a personal need became a genuine passion for helping other dogs and owners understand one another.
