Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I use high quality, acid free paper and high quality illustration quality rich graphite pencils. Excellent attention to detail and customer needs and requests. I like being able to create something that is a special gift of the heart, not just an easily forgotten plastic thing from a mega-store. I'm also moved that I'm able to create an artwork that will be kept in a family for generations!

Darla Dixon did a pencil portrait for me of my recently deceased 18 year old nephew with Christ at his side with his hand upon my nephew's shoulder. I gave it as a gift to my bother and his wife to help them in their tremendous grief over the loss of their son and they loved it beyond words. Darla did a most excellent, Job. The likeness to my nephew was spot on and the depiction of Jesus Christ was also exactly as I had asked for it to be. I was absolutely delighted and thrilled with the finished product. Any small changes I asked for as she worked on the portrait, Darla accommodated them. She communicated with me often throughout the process and always gave me emails of the picture to approve as we went along. Delivery was on time (actually sooner than I had imagined which I was so grateful for) and Darla gave advice on the best kind of framing for it as well. I would use her again for any needs of this kind that I have in the future and would highly recommend her based on my experience.

When I saw examples of Darla's work - I knew I wanted her to do a drawing of my girls as a present to myself. Her attention to detail and ability to take a photo and create a pencil portrait is impressive. She also is very helpful in advice re: how to have it framed so as to preserve/protect the drawing. I have recommended her to friends who are looking for something different/special/memorable as a gift. She is not limited in subject matter (does portraits of houses, pets, memorials, etc). Highly recommend!

Originally my husband commissioned her to do a few pencil portraits as a Christmas gift. I was so impressed decided to get an additional portrait done the next month!!! Then we talked and decided to do one more portrait (a realistic gag) that turned out AWESOME as well. She was so nice and responsive. She took so much pride in her work and making sure I was pleased. I was totally impressed!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I just need to see the reference photos of what you would like drawn, and an idea of what size you would like it to be.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The most common types of portrait jobs I complete for my clients are baby and pet drawings. The pencil drawings of babies are wonderful new baby gifts, Mother's and Grandmother's Day gifts, and Christmas gift ideas. Portraits of dogs are more often done than portraits of cats. I wish my clients didn't wait until their dog has died to get a drawing done. A portrait of a pet is gorgeous to have on the wall all the time. I also do quite a few house drawings. They're challenging but fun and I get better with each one I do. Life is fun when you are learning and growing in skills!

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I do not create art at live entertainment events. I create custom pencil drawing gifts based on photographs my clients provide. I'm not able to create quality portraits in minutes. I put hours of effort and skill into each unique piece of art.
