FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Since every return is different it is hard to give an accurate price up front. Most preparers base their prices on the number and types of forms needed. Sometimes the preparer may uncover something the taxpayer had not thought to mention.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I am currently studying to become an Enrolled Agent. Around September Congress will start coming out with the new tax laws for the upcoming year. So from September to December preparers are studying the new changes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
One year I owed the IRS $10,000. I was shocked. $10,000 might as well have been $10 million. I set out to learn all I could about tax law to avoid this problem in the future. I finally resolved my debt with the IRS after years of payments, but it still leaves a sting to have to turn over that kind of money. In my pursuit I realized that tax codes were interesting and that I enjoyed learning about them. Then I turned that knowledge outwards to try and help others stay out of the predicament I ended up in.
