Today I want to share the beginning of a new chapter. We’re excited to announce that Thumbtack has acquired Setter, a home management company. This addition will greatly enhance our ability to become a partner to homeowners in the long-term maintenance of their home.
Not that long ago, I was sitting on my living room couch and heard one of those thumps in the wall that happens every so often. My first thought was to question if it was the heating system. Which led me to think, “When was the last time we had that looked at?” — I had no idea. I didn’t even know what type of furnace we have. Does anyone know? The reality is, the most valuable asset we own — our home — doesn’t come with an owner’s manual.
There’s no owner’s manual for the home because it’s a headache. Who wants to take the time to audit and record everything? And then stay on top of it? Well now, we want to put that whole process on autopilot for homeowners.
Our acquisition of Setter will allow us to work with homeowners, taking the hassle out of owning their most prized possession — their homes.
As a matter of fact, we can even start the process for you while you sit on your own couch. One of our dedicated home specialists will connect with you on video and walk through your entire house, inside and out. We’ll collect information on plumbing, HVAC, appliances, roofs, gutters and more.
Then, we’ll put together a customer home maintenance plan that prioritizes the most pressing needs and schedules out those that can wait, and we’ll help you manage taking action on your home maintenance all year long.
This is an enormous step for Thumbtack. We won’t just be the platform homeowners turn to when a pipe breaks. We’ll be the only app any homeowner needs for the care and maintenance of their home. For our pros, this means there will be more projects than ever on our platform.
There’s never been a home maintenance program like the one we’ll be able to offer.
I also want to warmly welcome the entire Setter team aboard. We are thrilled to partner with such a talented group of technologists, operations professionals and marketers to chart this new course. Adding the Setter team to ours will also give Thumbtack a presence in the vibrant tech community in Toronto, where we plan to continue to expand.
By combining Setter’s strengths with our own, we can change the entire experience of home ownership. When we do this well, we will deliver more than an owner’s manual. We will deliver peace of mind.
