My parents renewed their vows for their 50th wedding anniversary after celebrating on a dinner cruise off Honolulu. It was a surprise to them when Michael showed up. We didn't tell them we had some vows written for them. Michael officiated poolside with the exchange of the Lei, re-blessed the rings in a koa bowl full of seawater to cleanse away the hard times and refresh anew their future of good times. Even my small son was able to participate. Michael played the "Hawaiian Wedding Song" then the top ten hits from 1966. He made the day extra special for all of us, my Mother and Father most of all. They truly deserved it.May 31, 2016Minister Michael, Officiant,State Lic.'s reply
Thank you Larry. It was very special a gift to give to your parents who have come a long way. Your son is wonderful, the day was great. If your mother is so inclined, perhaps she can add a few words here to help others having an anniversary and contemplating renewing vows or getting married for the first time. Everybody's opinion counts here. Your parents were looking as in love now as when they probably were the first time around. Blessings to you all.
Minister Michael was perfect for our wedding in Hawaii! He married us in such a unique and beautiful way, making it that much more memorable and special for us. He helped us get a photographer and they were both very friendly and professional even with the strong winds that almost blew us away haha! I would highly recommend Minister Michael!Feb 8, 2018Verified
Michael was amazing. He made my wedding perfect. It was less than two weeks of planning our elopement in Hawaii and he guided me in everything from getting the license to what location to do it at. He emailed every time I asked him anything. His photogragher was great to. Both of them were so sweet and just made everything pwrfect. I will never forget this day it couldn't have been any more perfectJan 14, 2018Verified
We really enjoyed working with Minister Michael. After a few exchanges we knew without a doubt that we'd found the right person for our wedding. We’ve both lived full lives and wanted someone to perform our ceremony that understood what that meant. Minister Michael was very responsive, made the effort to understand who we were as individuals, what brought us together as a couple and what we wanted in a ceremony. The ceremony he wrote for us was perfect. We would not have changed a thing. We highly recommend Minister Michael!Nov 28, 2016VerifiedMinister Michael, Officiant,State Lic.'s reply
You are a wonderful couple who are truly blessed to have found each other! Both amazing in your own right. We'll stay in touch. Hope that grandchild was born before you all had to leave. Blessings, Michael
Thank you Michael for doing such a wonderful job. Everything ran pretty smoothly. I will definitely recommend you to others that are looking for an Officiant. Thank you again!Jun 1, 2016VerifiedMinister Michael, Officiant,State Lic.'s reply
Aloha Nichol, Having known you a short while from my Doctor's office seeing some of your co-workers at the ceremony was special. You were the talk of the office later. I'm sorry to see you go since your husband transferred off island but you are sure to be an asset wherever you go work next. Stay in touch.
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Pricing is an important consideration but think for a minute what it all means. If the plumber doesn't show up or is late it does not cause too big a distraction, you just make a new appointment. I have to be early to be on time, I need to show up, period. Then I can go over the wedding game plan and perform a meaningful ceremony. You would be surprised how many calls I get because a wedding minister didn't show up. And I go all over the island and to neighboring islands too. Most service providers won't show up to your house let alone any location on the island for less than $100. And that is before they start work. I charge a small base and let my customers pay me what they feel they and their day is worth and how I enhanced it. It is how I make you feel. I cover my expenses and pay to be here, it should not be about the money. My wedding planner events pay me over $500 a ceremony in the most grand of events. My thumbtack weddings are a fraction of that.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Thumbtack is a no-frills type of booking service. I offer an excellent value. I start with asking them where they would like to marry and why. I try to cater each ceremony to what it is they tell me. I ask how they met, who said I Love you first and where it was at. I try to get to know them as I am going to be a big part of their special day. I charge a small booking fee to reserve the date then let them pay the small balance at the ceremony then let them decide what it is worth to them and receive it as a gratuity. I give my people getting married more control that way. I also come early and leave late.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Being a student of theology and an apprentice of Hawaiian cultural studies, it gives me both a religious, spiritual and a blend of the both that helps people understand our connection with our earth and their higher power whether it be to God, our Akua or their own life's Force. A majority of people these days are looking for a more spiritual ceremony celebrating each other and outside of the church.
