Katherine Bourne Music Studio

Introduction: Katherine Bourne have been a pianist for 11 years, flutist for six years and vocalist (opera) for two years. Katherine Bourne began her piano studies at age five under the tutelage of Barbara Woods. She has the accompanist experience with Holy Trinity's Vacation Bible School in 2013 and with numerous student soloists in need of a practice accompanist. Ms. Bourne's piano background gave her a solid foundation for learning the flute at age 10. She was a member of Urbandale Middle School and Urbandale High School's band program in both concert band and marching band. Katherine began private studies under the tutelage of Anne Stein in 2011 and has received Division I ratings on every solo/duet performance. In the 2012 Perry Band Olympics, Katherine was 3rd place out of the top five flutists in her division, and in 2013 was awarded 2nd place. Katherine is a member of the Des Moines Symphony Academy's pre-professional flute quartet, "Zauberflote", who perform at local venues. She also performs as an accompanist to sacred music at the Basilica of Saint John in Des Moines. Ms. Bourne began vocal (opera) studies with Anne Stein in 2011. Katherine has performed numerous solos in the Urbandale Middle School and Urbandale High School music programs. She was a member of the Urbandale show choir program and represented Urbandale in Johnston's Solo Competition performing "Memory" in 2012, and "I Dreamed A Dream" in 2013. Ms. Bourne competed in a regional NATS competition at Simpson College in 2012, as a freshman, and was put through to the semi-final round.
