FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
There are many seminars put on by the Idaho state department of agriculture, and by supply companies that provide great education, and continued learning in the landscape industry. I have attended numerous conferences on weed control, pesticides, laws and safety, and general pest knowledge. There are also a lot of great websites that continue to provide continuing education, and the most up to date practices for this area. I check these sites regularly, and try to implement the things that apply to my company. There are new products coming out continually in the lawn and tree care industry, including changes in the laws and labels for chemical applications. Also, there are new pests coming to the area that we need to stay on the lookout for in our landscapes, and learn how to deal with them.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find someone who knows their plants! They don't need to be horticultural geniuses, but should have a good general knowledge of the life forms that make up the landscape. Also, they should be willing to take their time to do a quality job. I hate to say it, but there is always the temptation in this industry to rush through jobs in the busy season. A good gardener wants the garden to look wonderful, whether it's in their own yard, or a client's. A beautiful garden cannot be without labor of love, and appreciation of nature.
