Pete and I regularly performed, wrote music and recorded albums together in Shenzhen, China from 20012-2014. I've traveled the world and have performed/collaborated w musicians from all walks of life. Without a doubt, Pete is one of the best. His unique melodic & harmonic guitar colorings are essential in what set him apart from other composers. Pete knows how to listen to each song and write to meet the needs of that song. Pete is also a seasoned music teacher, having 3-5 years of classroom teaching of guitar, ukulele in China as well as private lessons in the US over the last decade. And then there's performing: Pete's performed in all manner of venues, all types of bands and with eclectic and unique musicians. There's very little he hasn't experienced and so much that he is able to assist in helping student's develop. Whether you want to develop your guitar chops, learn how to song- write, pro tips and pointers on performance - Trust me, Pete Kruse is your mentor. I'm his peer and I have learned countless skills from him. He gets my full recommendation. If you're looking to book him to perform for your function, you'll be very happy with your entertainment!

Olivia and Jeremy were amazing to work with! Their planning and preparation helped us relax and enjoy our wedding events with family and friends. We loved how organized they were and how they thought of every little detail, to help our day run smoothly. They were professional in all aspects of communication and we loved how they reached out to our wedding venue, band, and singers, prior to wedding day. The day of our wedding they were very attentive and jumped in when needed to help ease transitions. They were are go to couple! We received many compliments about the music from guests and loved that they were able to offer lots of different options to help meet all our unique needs. Everyone enjoyed the music from my grandmother to our young nieces! Our day would have gone awry without them. We would not hesitate to book Jeremy and Olivia for future events and would highly recommend utilizing their services!

Over the years, I've had the privilege of playing in multiple bands with Joshua. His music theory based vocabulary is always cerebral. But instead of coming across as "speaking over one's head" it actually helps you to connect the dots! He can speak and teach like a college professor, or at an easier to grasp level... say, 3rd grade. Being around him, I've learned many important music theory items by osmosis. Such as knowing my G## from my A, and the difference in the notes between a Bb Ionian mode and an F Mixolydian!

The B-Side Band performed at our fundraising in November. They were outstanding!. I would highly recommend them for your next event. From securing our date to discussing the details of the evening, the members of the band were extremely helpful in guiding us. Our guests enjoyed their playlist and couldn't get off the dance floor.

My daughter, Piper, started her 1st music lessons with Miss Jessica at age 7. She laid the foundation for love of music which continues to this day. Her thoughtful lessons designed to suit Piper's ability, made learning fun and easy. Her uncanny patience brought them through periods when faced with greater music challenges. I appreciated her approachable demeaner and willingness to keep an open dialogue. Piper passed from piano to French horn in 5th grade when school band was offered. With the benefit of lessons from Miss Jessica, it made for a smooth transition. Thanks for 4 great years! Kate (Piper's mom)

About

The Big Eagle Band was established in Chicago, IL, in January 2008. Covering a range of jukebox favorites from the 1970’s to present day, The Big Eagle Band sets its sights on recreating what is in your establishment’s jukebox, live on stage. The Big Eagle Band features John Beniacs on bass and vocals, Matt Stone on guitar and vocals, Mark Sibincic on drums and Phil Valenti on guitar. All members are in their early 30's, jamming the music everyone loves. John, Matt, Mark and Phil have a long sordid history of playing in original bands dating back to the mid-90’s (most recently Mark and John in Government Warning and Matt and Phil in Killie McGee and Point 08). While styles and genres fade in and out, hits remain, and this idea brought the four members of The Big Eagle Band together. With everyone’s prior experience, it was a matter of weeks before the band was armed and ready to bring its show to the masses. The Big Eagle Band’s performance is guaranteed to electrify and stimulate any crowd with their diverse catalog of jukebox favorites and humorous banter — the perfect ingredients that make any show not just fun, but a blast! The Big Eagle Band is professional and is available for booking not only for bar gigs, but also for corporate events, festivals and public or private parties. Offering well over 6 hours of music, The Big Eagle Band can provide entertainment all night long.

About

Artist Bio Funny name. Great band! Most groups start with rock and pop and play blues when they run out of material. They start with blues because it's the basis for all-American pop music since early in the last century, then they take great material and do it the way they think it fits for the band. For 28 years, Chainsaw Curtis and the Creepers have been playing a distinctive brand of roadhouse blues, rock 'n' roll, and R&B music all over Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and eastern Iowa. More about Chainsaw Curtis and the Creepers Curt Rodeheaver started playing music on the piano at age nine and picked up the guitar at thirteen. Gigs for high school dances led to his first nightclub work in 1970. He continued to play in bands and in 1981 in Ithaca, New York with band mate Glenn Davis and started a weekly Blue Monday jam session at a night club called the Nines, which is still going today. According to Living Blues magazine, it's one of the longest continuously running jams in the country. In 1989, Curt moved to Southern Wisconsin from upstate New York to open the Silver Moon Blues Oasis in Darien. He got the name Chainsaw from a line in the Huey Lewis song "Cool Is the Rule (But Sometimes Bad is Bad)." The Creepers started as the house band at the Moon backing artists from Chicago. Curtis would occasionally take the band out of the club and do gigs in other area venues. When Curt left the Moon in 1993, he continued to book the band in clubs, at festivals, and parties. There have been many Creepers over the years (more than 35!). The first Creepers album, Too Much Like Work, was released in 1996 and included eight original pieces and three covers. Dave Luhrssen of the Milwaukee Shepherd Express called it one of the best locally produced blues albums. Curt's song "Nine Months of Winter" got to 102 on the Garageband.com over all charts in a field of more than 20,000 songs. The 2000 release Pantloads of Fun included eight original songs by Curt. John Noyd of Maximum Ink magazine called Pantloads a "smokey barbecue reminiscent of ZZ Top and Los Lobos." Chainsaw Curtis is currently working on material for his third album - (Tragedy's Easy) Comedy's Hard. The Creepers have more than a hundred years of experience on stage. There is video of the band on our Reverbnation page. It's blues! It's electric folk! It's American music! Crank it up.

About

Johnsburg Jimmy Murphy comes from a long line of musical talent, starting from his younger days watching his father Walter play upright bass in a succesful Jazz trio.He was hooked right from the start and began fumbling along at the age of 12.From there he moved over to guitar and made room for his younger brother Lenny to pick up the bass and follow in their dad's footsteps. That was the start of a 17 year run on the streets of Chicago, playing every club they could get their hands on .The stage named Johnsburg was added to Jimmy Murphy due to the large volume of Jimmy's on the circuit by his peers.Johnsburg is the small town from which he currently hails and has always supported.Current projects such as "Johnsburg Jimmy and Freinds: allows for a fresh set of musicians on each run of events and keeps things intersting for his followers. He continues to push the envelope and is on a constant mission to keep the family music alive.Since his brother Lenny's passing in March of 2013 he devotes all of his passion through him and for his memory.See you on the road.....Jimmy

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
