They replaced a 5 x 6 casement window. Very professional. They took their time and did a great job. Caulking was good and they touched up the paint on the house as well. The work area was clean and neat.

Excellent Window installation in McHenry, Il
We hired Martin Brown at McHenry Windows , Siding and Trim to install 19 double hung windows in our home. He quotes us a very fair price and we agreed to a contract. When we started the job, there was damage and dry rot in the walls that was not apparent in the original quote. Since we had ordered the windows, we were both committed to finish the job. Yes. It was more than we had agreed, but we discussed it at the outset and reached an agreement that was reasonable to both. Sometimes surprises happen and rather than try to find fault, or gain an advantage, Martin and I find a honest, just, resolution that we both could live with. He was excellent on communication, being there when he said. If it rained, he let me know he couldn't work and when he would be back. He had to hire an electrical subcontractor (another surprise) who was also excellent, competent and reasonable in cost. If he had to work on Saturday or Sunday he would be there. As for work quality, I would give him a 6 if I could. He did things well, is an excellent carpenter, and understands the difference between the minimum and doing the right thing. Finally, he cleaned the worksite every day after he was done, and if there was risk of rain, stabilized the site to prevent damage. I would recommend him without reservation

    Scam Artist
What a horrible experience. After he promised to have my basement windows installed without the need to fill in with wood/frame because they are "custom fit." He ended up using a frame to fill in the too small windows. Was rude and intimidating. Very hostile individual. After he removed my old windows he notified me of the problem that the windows were too small. By that point it was too late, "custom windows were in and my house was without windows. Of course I needed him to finish the job. Warning, he's salesman, hell make it sound great but he doesn't offer anything special. Save your money and use somebody else. I was scammed!!!! Overpriced, very overpriced, couldn't fulfill his promise. And very rude and intimidating.

My sincerest apologies. I was invited to give an estimate, I inspected the opening and talked about two ways of installation, owner requested that the windows be installed in the bricks, I agree and we measure the windows together and decide on the size just below the old wood window sill (2x12). I order the windows and they come as ordered. As I removed the first window it was revealed that the space under the window was hollow. I asked the owner Rolando Ruiz (Javier was not their and only as I know is an outside three party not the owner) I explained and showed him the situation and explained I could remove all the windows for him and board up the window til he could have a concrete sill installed. (at no extra cost for me to do board up) and I would return and install the window the next day (after new sills) or I will go to Home Depot and get the things I need to install the windows today with wood frames and I would cap all the wood on the outside in brown aluminum to match the windows upstairs. He agreed can I wrote up an Addendum to the contract and installed the windows.( at no extra cost) You may view the installation in my gallery.(5 white and brown capped windows) Thank you for your consideration in future hires. Sincerely, Martin

First, he came he all cheery and with great attitude. He gave us a quote for completing two jobs: patio door w/installation and work around our garage door. My husband went ahead and hired him and gave him almost the entire amount of money (yikes). He called and made an appointment to come and install. He did not show up when he said he would so I called him and he called back and said he would not make it that day (several hours after he was to be here). Then he set another date. Called and said he would not be able to come that day because he had to finish up some other job but would be able to come another day. I texted him that we did have someone that would stay home that day to greet him. He never responded so I called and he said he did respond (?) but would be here between 8 and 8:30. Called and said he would then be here between 10 and 10:30. Called my daughter at 10:10 and said he would be here within 30 minutes. Showed up after 11. Did not finish by 3 (yes only four hours--but originally told me that he would only need 3/4 hours) and said he would have to show up the next day to finish. Came the next day to finish up. While the door installation looks okay, there are finishing touches that look terrible. When my daughter handed him the check, he said, "Oh it is $125 more but I will talk to your mother." Oh yeah? First time I heard that and we had a contract! I was very insistent when we first hired him that he would fix all the wood under the door and he said yes. The thing is, things happen but I felt he was very arrogant and really does not understand customer service. I felt I could not complain or he would not finish and he already had my money. Very disappointed as I was looking for someone I could count on to do more work in my house.

    Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Managing remotely, gave little to no supervision to subs, left behind a 3 hr plaster removal job for me, decided on his own to redesign switch locations without talking to me and when brought to his attention he chose to ignore it and had people drywall without coming to look at it. He decided easier to connect another way then promised to fix but, but did not, now there are switches that do nothing because he moved the connections...arghh!. He cut corners, there are doors are stuck on floor, needed planing, didn't reinstall what he removed, light rims and smoke detectors, telling me painters had to do it...NOT! Bottom line, proposal was vague, not detailed (to his advantage) after requesting a detailed proposal, he finally came up with one that was vague, but in good faith I believe him when he said he would do as we discussed. He argued about the work that was spelled out in the proposal. Quick to hurry up and get the money, putty left on doors and some not puttied at all, gaps on trim. was supposed to be paint ready, yeah right... He needs a lesson in conversing with a client as well.

I' am sorry that you feel that way. We did your best with what we had to work with. You Failed to mention that I was there fixing the problems your other contractor that you hired before me, (all the ceiling drywall and framing fell to the floor, among other things done incorrectly) He created all the problems in the first place. I' am sorry that the doors needed trimming , there was no flooring carpet, tile etc. The doors were installed at there highest jamb allowance your other contractor framed in. We worked within the budget you set. As you continually to remind me that you are selling the house and needed everything done as inexpensively as possible. I sincerely wish you the best and wish you would of spoke to us first. I am sure things would of been more positive for you Thanks, Martin

Martin replaced our front window which had lost its seal. He returned my call promptly and even came out for the estimate on a Sunday which surprised me. The quote was competitive and we agreed to use his service. The window was replaced in a timely manner and the job was well done. I appreciate working with a professional who does the job that was agreed upon with no hassles. And he is a dog lover too! Mike H.

If I could leave less than one star I would!!!!! Martin Brown is the most unprofessional, pushy, dishonest, rude, and unreliable business man I have EVER worked with. I would not even recommend him to my worst enemy. DO NOT HIRE HIM unless you want to be receive the worst customer service and to be spoken to like a child. When asked how long it would take to finish our hardwood floors, Martin Brown actually said, with more attitude than a hormonal teenage girl, "I don't have a crystal ball and I am not in your house right now am I so how would I know such a thing?".. WELL GUESS WHAT MARTIN.. I don't have a crystal ball either but I do know that I will never work with you, none of my friends and family will work with you, and I will be sure to spread my experience with you to anyone who will listen.

McHenry Window, Siding & Remodeling did a fabulous job on my remodel. The quality of work is outstanding! They really pay attention to detail. Also, the job site was left cleaner than it was before they got here.

Ive used McHenry Windows, Siding & remodeling for about 10 years. Ive had Martin install a sliding door, windows, install kitchen cabinets, counters-full kitchen remodel including the plumbing all in my home. I manage another property and he installed skylights, changed out locks, and put in a full back yard fence. I have had nothing but positive experiences with his company and employees. Attention to detail, timely completion, cost as estimated, honest and safe. As a singe mom these are all qualities i demand and I couldn't be happier.
