About this pro

How does your service stand out?

I focus on educating parents-to-be on what to realistically expect from their labors. I give them the tools and knowledge to make this a happy and successful time in their lives. I find that when parents have realistic expectations of their labor, parents are relaxed and can focus on bonding and building a secure attachment with their baby and have a good birth memory with no regrets.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love giving motivated couples good information regarding the birthing process. It's very satisfying to see couples go from being unsure in the beginning to empowered by the end of the class series. I have many years of experience behind me that helps to keep couples calm and ready for their birth.

Barb brings a wealth of knowledge and experience around the natural birthing process. My husband and I feel so prepared after taking her class. We learned so much that we would not have otherwise known. Thanks Barb...we can wait to share our birth story with you...2 weeks to go!

Barb has an incredible amount of experience & loves what she does. She covers topics thoroughly in order to help you form your own opinions. She always made time for questions & gave out great hand outs with interesting info. I highly recommend her class as I feel better prepared for the changes & happiness our new baby will bring! :)

The class was very informative and interesting. Even coming from the family and environment where the natural childbirth is something to be expected, we were surprised by how much new information we learned throughout the course, You can tell Barb has tons of experience, knowledge and resources to share; she doesn't push her opinion on you, is fun and interactive. I am glad we took the class with her, highly recommended.

Overall, this was a really informative class, and Barb definitely has a lot of experience and knowledge to share. We definitely feel much more prepared and equipped for a natural childbirth, and the techniques we learned in the class were very helpful. The amount of handouts we got each week was a bit overwhelming, but overall, we would recommend this class.

I grew up in a household where natural childbirth was talked about all the time so I knew when I had children this was the route I wanted to go. When I took this class I wasn't sure how much of the material would be new to me as I already knew a lot about it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much Barb's classes taught me. The classes were very informative and Barb was a great teacher. She was very knowledgable about the material and I felt comfortable asking any questions. I highly recommend her class!

More than adequate information on all the questions you might have about your 40 weeks of pregnancy, labor, and delivery. The curriculum we used was a great help!

Barb is very knowledgeable about natural birth. The class covered a wide range of helpful topics. I most enjoyed the interactive activities and discussions, as they made it easier to retain the information.

The majority of what a new mom hears about pregnancy from other moms probably sounds like what I have heard--horror stories from those who remember just the bad stuff or gushing praises from those who say you'll forget the pain as soon as the baby is in your arms. This is overwhelming to someone experiencing pregnancy for the first time. If you want to be prepared for how to best take care of your growing baby and yourself, and if you prefer to be made aware of the things you can expect from conception through the first few weeks postpartum objectively, Barb's class is an excellent option. My husband and I learned an incredible amount and heard plenty of helpful ideas and tips that no one else would have told us. I am looking forward to giving birth naturally, and I am much more capable of that because of Barb's instruction.

I had an emergency c section with my first pregnancy and when I found out I was pregnant with my second, I knew I wanted things to be different! My husband and I wanted to be educated and prepared as possible so that I could get the birth I wanted. After several recommendations, we signed up for classes with Barb. The classes were incredible. No didn't realize how much we took away from the classes until I was in labor and my husband really knew absolutely everything to get me through my 36 hour labor! If it wasn't for these classes and of course my amazing midwife, I would have never gotten to experience the birth I wanted!

Q&A

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I read a lot of books during my pregnancy, but the one that resonated with me the most at the time was Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way. After the birth of my child, I decided I wanted to teach natural childbirth classes to inspire others to have a complete and comprehensive class so they could have a great experience too. I have been teaching since 1990 and still get excited about teaching class.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I would say teaching natural childbirth classes. I teach an 8 week session about 5 times a year in my home. I also am a certified doula, so I support not only couples from my childbirth class, but from referrals through the DONA website, midwives, some Dr. practices and word of mouth.
