- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I explore my client's needs and wishes through an extensive interview and questionnaire process. Based on this information, as well as photos, magazine clippings, and various other descriptions of their preferences, together we build a "program" or narrative that comprehensively describes their project goals. Then in a step by step process, we work as a team to develop and refine this into a clear and concise design. Using the following phases, we work together, along with the team to guide the design to ensure that we craft a solution that meets their functional, budget, and schedule needs. The phases are as follows: 1) Research 2) Schematic Design 3) Design Development 4) Construction Documents 5) Bid Coordination & Permitting 6) Construction Administration
- How did you get started doing this type of work?My interest in architecture began while working as a rough framing carpenter in Brighton, MI. I fell in love with the process and challenges of building homes from the ground up. As I discovered the many challenges that are faced during the building of a home, my curiosity lead me to explore just how homes are conceived and crafted to meet the needs of their inhabitants.
- What types of customers have you worked with?My customers are quite varied. They range from first time homeowners, interested in maximizing their investment, through seasoned home builders seeking to push the limits of what is possible. They all have one thing in common, and that is they know the value of design. They understand that their investment into their home represents one of the most significant undertakings of their lives. They trust that the investment into their home's design yields enormous dividends, both in their experience of the home, but also in it's value.
