Leslie has been a blessing for our Kenny! He had a rough background before we rescued him. We struggled with quite a few of his behaviors. We were to a point where we didn’t know how to help him anymore. He had such severe anxiety even simple things were hard for him. We had worked with other trainers that didn’t understand him. She completely gets how and when he can be pushed. While he is still a work in progress, he has improved so much! She is amazing to work with! We can’t thank her enough for everything she has done and is doing for our baby!

I was having issues with my boy Brunswick. I had taken him to a different dog training program. It just wasn't enough for my stubborn boy. I needed an extensive in-resident program. Leslie was able to get him in immediately. She thoroughly explained what she was going to do to help me and Brunswick. I thought if he learned only half of what she said I would be happy. He was a bit overweight. He slimmed down and looks great. Leslie made some recommendations to his diet and he loves it. It also saves me some money. The program was not just for him. It was also for me. I am becoming a better dog handler. I am more confident in what I can do with Brunswick. When I have questions, Leslie responds quickly. I am so glad I found The Educated Canine. I wish I had known about her a year ago.

Leslie did such an amazing job working and training our dog. Our dog came into the program showing some early signs of aggression and Leslie was able to educate us on why, show us how to correct the behavior but also show us how to keep exposing him to certain environments to teach him what is acceptable and what is not. I really appreciated that because the easiest thing to do is to avoid the situations or environments that could be triggers, but as Leslie taught us that wouldn’t teach the dog structure and boundaries. We are so happy with the training and feel confident with our dog again. We now have a better understanding of our dog, but also feel like we can now be better pet owners. It’s not fair to the dog if you as a pet owner don’t know how to properly train/communicate with your dog. Leslie spent time with us after the board/train to really educate us and I’m extremely grateful for it! You can tell Leslie is passionate about what she does. She knows dogs through and through and is amazing at what she does! Thank you Leslie for helping bring the best out of us as dog parents, and the best out of our dog. We love him dearly and are so grateful that we can clearly and effectively communicate with him now! -Shannon V

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Evaluations are given for clients desiring private lessons. They are 15-30 minutes long and are $60. That is, in turn, applied to any further services they opt in for at The Educated Canine.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I mentored for a number of years at a world renowned dog training facility in Grayslake, IL. before going on my own. I have been professionally training dogs since 2001.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Since a young child, growing up in Japan, I have always been interested in working with animals. I began with dogs, transferred to competing with horses and back to dogs at the age of 19 taking my career more seriously having mentored for a number of years as a trainer, at a world renowned dog training facility before going on my own.
