Jon provided the music for the cocktail hour of our wedding on Sunday, September 18, 2016. We must start out by saying that, because the entire wedding was one big whirlwind, we did not have the pleasure of being able to hear a majority of Jon’s performance. However, we did hear through word of mouth that the guests really enjoyed the music that Jon provided. We communicated exclusively through e-mail. He was very kind and patient with us as we tried to figure out what types of music we wanted to play. Jon was able to send us a list of songs that he was well-versed in and that accommodated the genres we ultimately decided on (latin, jazz, bossa nova, R&B). This made our lives easier as it helped us to focus and eventually narrow our choices down to a small selection of songs. We finally got a chance to meet face to face at the wedding venue. He was very sweet and very formal (and he speaks Spanish too!). We did have a bit of confusion regarding whether or not Jon would use his own personal keyboard or the piano provided by the wedding venue but thankfully everything worked out in the end. Jon was VERY reasonably priced; however, he does not provide a contract (but because Jon is such a professional, this was not an issue at all). We would absolutely recommend Jon. And like we had mentioned to him at the venue, hopefully we have another opportunity to hire him so that we can listen to and enjoy his musical talents in its entirety. Thanks again Jon!

Bob is great! Patient and fun. We have worked with him for over a year and he even organized four 6-year-olds for a band for the school talent show in a very short time.

This is one of the best programs I have ever been a part of and I recommend it to anyone looking for the best teachers in the business. The skills one learns through Stacey De will stay with students outside of music and be applied to their lives forever.

Do not have enough words to express how great the Band Sundance was for our wedding. Their ease of communication beforehand put both of us at ease that we would not have to worry about this vendor. The bands choice of songs kept everyone of all age groups on the dance floor. We received numerous compliments of the band. Whether it was when they were playing, or when they catered to other music the crowd liked when they were on break. Their professionalism, talent, and love of getting people out on the dance floor is second to none. I wish we could have had more time with the Band Sundance, and would recommend them to anyone looking to have a live band. Whether it was 70s-90s music or country music, the Band Sundace put on an amazing show. Also the fact they took candid photos while playing was something that went above and beyond what you woould expect of a band. Again, there are not enough words to express how great they were at our wedding.

Artist collective is a very professional business that has the musician in their best interest. I personally have worked with them and it was so nice to have them take care of the "business" end, so I could concentrate on the creative end with my band. AC set us up with a photo/video shoot and it was a success! Highly recommended by us!!

Nick and his mate, Sam showed up on time....ready to work and continued to play three sets during a three hour period. This is my first time hiring a band for my personal party and I could not have worked with a better pair. I will definitely use him again. Well worth the money. Nice guys and open to my inexperienced suggestions. Lol! And I haven't even mention the quality of their music (jazz) was outstanding. They were the hit and highlight of the party.

Loved the Jeff Alterio Band! Jeff is well versed in our favorite rock guitar classics, they expertly executed Stevie Ray, Stones, Eagles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Skynard, Muddy Waters & Hooker in that jamming guitar style you remember from the greats. They do not disappoint! These guys are fun & very talented musicians. Hope to have them play again soon. I'm sure they'll just get better over time, Now I'd like hear a little more of his original work Trash Opera.

Two of my sons took piano lessons from Miss Linda when they were 5-6 and 7-9 years old. Both boys are very different (personality, work ethic, temperament, talent) from one another, but Linda was able to encourage the push them to achieve a level of musical appreciation and performance that has helped both excel in the orchestra and band instruments they have taken up now they are older. A very talented musician herself, Linda also 'gets' kids and has a gentle way of instruction that encourages children to want to practice and improve each week. Highly recommend Linda!

Aaron Dorfman is not only a truly gifted guitarist, but an amazing music teacher. He gave my young daughter guitar lessons for several years, and is a patient and engaging teacher. It brings him genuine joy to see the children he works with succeed on their chosen instruments. Aaron also taught me how to play guitar, even though I didn't start lessons until I was in my 40's. He was able to strike the right balance between encouraging me and challenging me -- something every great teacher strives to do. I also ended up working with Aaron for a couple of years -- both performing together live and recording my original music with him. Aaron can do it all -- he sang harmonies, played guitar, worked on the musical arrangements, played keyboards and bass, did the sound mixing. Sharing the stage with a musician of his caliber was a privilege, and I will always be grateful to him for sharing his many musical gifts with me both on stage and in the studio. Hire Aaron to perform at your next event or as a music teacher. I recommend him without reservation.

Steve is a great guy and a wonderful musician. Steve graduated the year before I started high school. He came back to help the saxophone section learn music for marching band and along the way, gave many valuable pointers to help us all know our instruments better and grow as young musicians. Almost 20 years later and I still regard him as an inspiration to my musical endeavors.

Ms. Røsnes introduced me to several particular stringplaying technical applications. A mountain of patience and a source of inspiration. I had almost given up hope of ever learning but I am still playing and through her instructions am able to make the music live. Much appreciated! Thank you.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
