FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
If you are curious about architectural fees, they may range from 3%-6% of the cost of construction depending on the complexity of the design, size of the project, level of services requested and detail of the construction drawings. Of course, this is simply a rough estimate and a specific proposal would be prepared for your particular project. This does, however, give you a general idea of fees.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My Design Process consists of the Schematic Design Phase which is the concept of the house. Drawings include 1/8th inch floor plans, elevations (usually the front and rear) and a site plan (at an appropriate scale). We will refine these drawings until the design is approved. The next phase is Design Development where the schematic design is developed by the computer utilizing CADD (computer assisted design & drawings.) Your project is modeled into the computer which allows for 3D models and Virtual Reality fly-arounds. This is still a design phase and we will refine the design until approved. The following phase is Construction Documentation. This is the set of "blueprints" which the Contractor will bid and build your project. Drawings include floor plans (with walls, windows & doors dimensioned & detailed), foundation plan, roof plan, elevations and exterior perspectives. The level of detail on the set of Construction Drawings can be a "Basic Builders Set" to fully detailed drawings including electrical plans, wall sections, building sections and interior elevations of elements such as cabinetry, built-ins and fireplaces.
