My experience with Phylis can only be described as a nightmare from day one.She came to talk on the first meeting and I told her my budget was small.Then she started making her drawings and suggesting choices of colors.if I or my partner didn't agree with her choices she would catch an attitude. Whenever she found anything for decoration it was always too expensive for me..then she proceeds to tell me that my budget was not something she could work with,but in our initial meeting she said she could,my partner and I felt like we were not in position to make any decisions about OUR OWN business because she always wanted things done her way only. She hired a carpenter who cost 3 times more than your average..but he was not available when needed..he came to do structural work and left a big mess of dust that WE had to clean.We called other companies to compare prices for the project as far as electrical and carpentry and plumbing and their prices were much cheaper but at this point we are already stuck.She wouldn't show up for long periods of time claiming she was busy with other projects..there letting me know my project was not important because my budget was small..she always chose the most expensive things..I had to do most of the work on my own to be able to finish and open for business and still I was over budget.Most of the planning she did was not completed on time or was not completed as discussed.From day one she was bossy as if I was the one working for her. I learned from my experience that sometimes it is not worth to hire someone who is not showing the skills required for the job that they were hired for. including how to treat your customer.

Martina, I am so sorry you are unhappy. As my contract states, I am not a general contractor, thus have the authority only to recommend, not to hire finish trades. You were free to hire whoever you wished to do the work, as long as they were licensed in the Village of Tinley Park. I did my best to bring the job in on time & on budget, despite the owner not keeping me informed of changes made to the approved plans. If I did not show up, it was only because my calls were not returned, and I couldn't schedule times to meet. I always do my best, and my skills have never been in question. If I can do anything to make things right, please let me know.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Most projects are billed at a flat fee, determined after phone interview or first meeting. An hourly rate is sometimes used when no definite scope of work is available.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Ask lots of questions, and listen. What are the clients expectations, and are they realistic?
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. As a certified (NCIDQ) designer CEU's are required. I attend all that my schedule permits. I believe lifelong learning is essential to providing my clients with the best service.
