Linda is an excellent trainer and coach. I have worked with her for many years and am always pleased with my lessons and the progress both my horse and I achieve. I highly recommend her for any rider as both trainer and coach.
I had mostly taken non-specialized riding lessons on horses which, while they have fabulous personalities, were not terribly well-trained beyond walk/trot/canter/"what's a half-halt?" I had learned the basics, but I was completely stuck trying to go further on horses who knew as little about what I was trying to learn as I did. Deciding to take lessons with Rebecca was the best move I could have made - she's super attentive to every detail while I'm riding, she knows exactly how to explain the biomechanics (my nemesis), and learning from a lovely horse who responds instantly to correct cues has completely changed my riding in just a few months. With the added bonus that the horses I ride on my own on other farms are much happier with me, moving more freely under saddle, and clearly getting the benefit of what I'm learning with Astoria. My confidence has sky-rocketed, and I've gone from being stuck to having a blast.
Our trainers have years of experience working with "problem" horses. While we love giving lessons or working with experienced horses who just need some reminders, putting time into a horse who isn't too sure that they want to be ridden is great fun!
We have a beautiful facility on 36 acres with a large-lit outdoor and indoor arena as well as miles of trails. We offer riding lessons on privately owned show ponies and horses, traveling to VHSA horse shows on and off-site both locally and rated, summer day camp, sales of show hunters, fox hunters, event prospects and family horses. We also have a large breeding program where we are heavily involved in the VPBA program as well as warmblood and TB crosses. Please call or email to stop by for a visit! Our goal is to help you find that "perfect match." This is a very family-oriented barn, and I have the best clients!
Riding at Morning Mist was awesome. I took lessons with Nancy for about a year and enjoyed every minute of it. The farm is nice and maintained well. She doesn't just teach how to ride, but also grooming and care for the horses. Her horses and ponies are all very well trained and a joy to work with. This was my first experience learning to ride and Nancy took her time and was very patient with me. She taught and coached me when needed and figured out that at some points I have to be given time to learn on my own. Overall this was a very rewarding experience and I would recommend Morning Mist Farm and Nancy to anyone interested in learning english riding from beginner to advanced.

I have been riding a Merkel Farm for about eight years. I have been a camper at their summer camp and am now boarding my first horse there. I have known the owner Stephanie Merkel for quite some time now and she is a wonderful person and instructor. She is very passionate about her work with her horses. As an instructor, she is patient, understanding, kind, and really does care about her students and wanting them to be the best they can be. The facilities are great with an indoor riding arena and an outdoor riding arena. The lesson horse are the best part, they are kind and willing for their riders. I have really come a long way with Merkel Farm and I just love it so much there. It really is my home away from home.
We have been with Jen Rogala for over 7 years. Jen is a rare find when it comes to professional trainers who still ride and train horses. Jen's work ethic and horsemanship is above par. She is a wonderful role model for young women. My daughter's riding has improved tremendously under her coaching. When it was time to move from our pony to a horse, Jen was instrumental in finding our gelding. Her ability to match the rider to the horse is outstanding. Silver Hawk Farm's barn is clean. The footing in the indoor ring is great. The care of the horses is wonderful. This barn is a must for horse enthusiasts who currently ride or who are looking to try the sport. Best value by far in the area. You will not be disappointed.
