FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
New construction fee is calculated by how large the house is. The LIVING AREA square footage is my basis. I do not count the garage because it is not apart of the living area, that is the areas that are heated and cooled. If the basement is not to have any design, I will provide, at no charge, a bathroom. If the basement is to have a design, I will draw the entire basement and only charge you for the bedrooms, the bathroom and the connecting hallway. Remodels are done on an hourly basis. I usually have a minimum number of hours that I require to do the job. It includes not only drafting but the measuring and any discussions of the existing premises.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out as a drafting teacher. But, after 2 years, moved on to designing kitchens and bathrooms. Eventually a builder hired me to draw his plans. The economy changed and I suddenly found myself to be self-employed. That was in the mid-80's. I've been on my own ever since.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
New home construction from individuals. These clients bring to me several different aspects of any number of house plans. They will want me to "marry" those many aspects into one plan at a certain size.
