In September of 2014, I hired Lance McCarthy and his outfit, ReTouch Real Estate Enhancement Group, for a whole-house remodel with a promised completion date of April 2015. What a disaster. I should have taken more time to seek out feedback from individuals not referred to me by Mr. McCarthy. Well, this review is unsolicited. The contract that ReTouch and I signed stated (in all caps), "Time is of the Essence." The only thing that seemed to be time sensitive for Mr. McCarthy was getting paid. However, it became increasingly difficult to justify paying ReTouch when much of the work was done wrong or was not done at all. Mr. McCarthy and the architect made material design changes and other deviations from the owner-approved permit plans without a word to me or my wife. While still on the job, ReTouch was regularly redoing much of its own work after my wife and I questioned the "finished" result. No one else was supervising the job, so that was left to me. Mr. McCarthy is devious, incompetent and greedy. This is not true about everyone at ReTouch. We found the lead designer to be a conscientious and caring individual. Why she is still associated with ReTouch is beyond me. After all remaining trust had eroded, and Mr. McCarthy was ignoring specific requests from me (even his own lead carpenter, Drew Irwin, was aware of these events), I dismissed ReTouch in July of 2015. Thereafter, I learned a great deal more about ReTouch from some of the subcontractors who had worked on our house and other homeowners who stopped to ask questions/compare notes. I should have dismissed ReTouch earlier. In August I brought in a competent, trustworthy builder to help correct all of the sub-standard work performed by ReTouch and to help me finish the project. Mr. McCarthy (true to form) sent me a "Final Invoice" that contained amounts for work that was either done poorly, or not done at all. Mr. McCarthy's attorney contacted me, and I provided him with a list of (more than 100) issues, defects and examples of faulty workmanship that was prepared by an experienced and reputable home inspector/expert witness. Then, Mr. McCarthy's hand-picked home inspector was permitted to visit the site to conduct his own inspection. I find it quite telling that I never heard from Mr. McCarthy, his attorney or ReTouch after his inspector left my home. Today, I feel a sense of duty to inform friends and neighbors so that no one else is fooled by this salesman who says all the right things just to get, and keep, the checks flowing. I have posted similar reviews on other sites and have had a chance to see Mr. McCarthy's responses. As expected, he couches himself as the victim, expressing sadness that he is being "attacked." He posts his phone number and offers to share "the full story" with anyone who will call him. My family and my finances suffered because of ReTouch. There is only one victim here and it is not Mr. McCarthy. I am posting here to help prevent others from becoming victims. Anyone can contact the city of Fairway, and eventually find me…, if you want the verifiably true full story.
