I have over 10 years on thumbtack doing primarily furniture assembly. Many of the customers I did work for call me back for additional work. I work alone so I have to be careful what jobs I do. I have a pickup so I'm able to pick up furniture from the store and haul away some furniture.

Roy did an excellent job of installing new curtain rods at just the right height, taking into account the curtain rings I was using to hang them. He puttied the old holes, as well. I will have him back for future work.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I base my estimates on the type of work being done. I charge by the square footage of a deck for refinishing. Specialty services are based on the job itself. Furniture assembly is based on each piece of furniture, usually a minimum charge is the price.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will try to meet with the customer to preview the job and make sure I'm clear on my customer's expectations. Before I leave the job and consider it finished, I make sure the customer is satisfied and has no questions unanswered.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was in the cleaning and restoration business for ten years. I was also doing some painting and general repairs for a property manager. I enjoy the work I do, and I take pride in a job well done.
