Introduction: I come to you! I have been a dog trainer 20 years now and am a Certified Professional Dog trainer working towards my veterinary behaviorist degree. I am a member of IAABC International Association of Applied Animal Behavior Consultants, The Association of Professional Dog trainers (APDT), and the Pet Professional Guild (PPG) I work to solve the source of behavioral issues, not just shutting down behavior and not addressing the actual emotion and reason for reacting. Jodi was very patient with our dog ( and us , I think we were more the problem). Our dog loved her and even though he’s an older dog, she was able to train him. Our house is so much quieter now and Beau is so much easier to work with. Highly recommend!

When I adopted my dog the shelter told me he was a one year old flat-coated retriever mix. He was very excitable and didn't behave the way I expected, which I know is common with rescues. It didn't take long for me to realize that Melvin and I needed professional help! One of the first things Jodi did was tell me that, based on behavior and cutting teeth, I had a border collie puppy mix! Even though I was surprised I was delighted that Jodi knows dogs so well that she can recognize a breed based on interactions. And that influenced how she worked with him and how she told me to work with him. Melvin has a lot of border collie habits, for better or for worse, and that includes LOTS of energy and a love for everyone. He was even jumping on top of my glass coffee table! I didn't think there would be any way to curb that behavior but Jodi taught us some training exercises and we put the kibosh on table jumping within a day. He also HATED his crate and Jodi helped us make it a good, safe place for him. She didn't just tell us how to train him with it but also where it should go and when we should size up (since she could tell he was going go grow - another surprise for us!). When we first learned that the low-key young dog we thought we'd adopted was actually a high energy puppy, our first thought was rehoming because I didn't know if I could give Melvin what he needed. Jodi taught both Melvin and me how to keep him safe and happy. This dog is my best friend and I couldn't have had that relationship without Jodi's help. She knows and loves dogs and it's clear that she's an expert. We're done with training for now but we still call Jodi for boarding because we know she's the best. I feel like I'm sending Melvin to summer camp when he's with Jodi because he's going to have so much fun, make so many friends, and come back happy and exhausted. We couldn't ask for a better experience 😁

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
You are not just paying an hourly rate with me. You are paying for my years of experience, knowledge and certifications in my field. You can be assured that you have someone that actually knows what they are doing with behavior. Regular dog consultations run 85 plus mileage fee. Aggressive dog Consultations run 150 as they are a bit more in depth and require me to work within the dogs comfort zone. I have package deals on my website that give a bit of a discount to those wanting to save a little money.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to speak to the client first to see what I can help with. Clients are sent to my website to do an intake form that will help me with working with their dog as well as scheduling an appointment time that is convenient for them. We meet I evaluate the dog and hear the owners concerns as well as ask questions that the intake form may have led to and then a I come up with a training plan tailored to each dog and owner to help the owner set the dog up to succeed. Management behaviors are given as well as information to Start them on the path to a better behaved dog.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a CPDT-KA, which means not only am I a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, but I have been tested on that knowledge. I do regular Webinars, and Continuing Education Units through the many professional organizations I am part of. The Association of Professional Dog Trainers or APDT. As well as The Pet Professional Guild and International Association of Behavior Consultants IAABC.org I have 18 years of hands on experience and am constantly working to keep up with industry standards. I work with and am mentored by several other force free trainers, Veterinary behaviorists, and Applied animal behaviorists. If I do not know the answer to a problem I have this pool of professionals to seek help from. I have trained well over 900 private lesson dogs and many, many group classes. I am able to teach 42 different tasks for service dogs at last count. I am an AKC CGC evaluator, able to give STAR puppy classes.
