I started taking lessons from John when I was 12 years old, about a few weeks after renting my first guitar. He was always very patient with me (being so young and not knowing anything about the instrument) and took the time to help me understand everything I could. He never rushed things, and made sure I played it slow and right until I worked my way to the appropriate speed. I always liked how he wrote out his own guitar method book so he could teach his style, his way. I was always real big into classic rock tunes, and he had plenty of those to teach me after I got the basic understanding of playing. He also gave me a huge appreciation for the roots/blues music that has made rock & roll. Today I am still a big fan of the blues. The best thing he ever did for me was when he taught me slide guitar using open tunings. This really opened my eyes. I had a cheap little open ended glass slide i had bought to try to teach myself "Free Bird". When i brought that in to learn slide from him, he said "NO, that isn't gonna cut it." He took me to the guitar shop himself and made sure I got the RIGHT glass slide, which is of course the coricidin bottle made famous by Duane Allman. I always loved that he made sure of that, no exceptions. Today I am 29 years old, still playing music with bands (was always my passion) and will never use another slide other than the good ol' medicine bottle. I highly recommend Mr. Hedger's services if you are serious about learning how to play the guitar.

I have NO experience with guitar, and I had a BLAST at my first lesson with David. I know him a little from other jam sessions here in Lexington and from his outstanding reputation, but honestly, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed just getting the basics of the guitar. It is mesmerizing. I am a lover of music and I come by that naturally from many members of my family, but this is something that feels so good just attempting :). Also, and I know this, EVERYONE associated with Dave is first rate. I highly suggest him and his crew for any level of musician or player.

I've worked with Chris for a couple years, and I wouldn't have any other person teach me to play music. His personality and sense of humor mixed with his knowledge of music makes for a great combination. I highly recommend Chris Mattingly.

I am very pleased with the decision to have Leah play during my wedding ceremony. She was so easy to work with, offered advice for music choices, and was up to the challenge of an outdoor wedding and non-traditional songs. Leah is truly a professional and her talent for making beautiful music is boundless! My husband and I were so impressed and grateful for sharing her craft with us on our special day! Thank you again, Leah!

I am an adult student, and Jonathan has been my instructor for almost four years. He is a very gifted musician, skilled instructor, and fun person to play guitar and mandolin with. During the last few years I have had very little time to practice, but with Jonathan's help I have developed my playing and singing. Whether your skills are beginner or advanced level, I highly recommend Jonathan as a teacher.

Scott was prepared and in spite of the P.A. system not working and the fact that it was raining until 30 minutes before the outside wedding began, he managed to play beautiful music and to keep the ceremony moving along. Very nice to work with!

Amazing teacher! I've had several music teachers in the past skip over important things or teach me wrong. Mr. Brown always managed to explain things in a way I would understand. He made sure I understood before moving on; something many teachers fail to do. My rhythm has improved tremendously thanks to him. I went from only knowing chords and strum patterns to being able to figure out how to play most songs on my own. I would still be taking lessons from him if we were in the same area. He does especially well at making sure his students have a place to play music. He doesn't simply put on recitals which can be rather boring and tedious. His student concerts allow his students to learn what it's like to play in front of a real crowd with a live band. Even though I was a guitar student, he still taught me vocal techniques and coached me on any instrument I wanted to learn. He always took time out of his own day to help me if I had a problem. He is the defenition of going above and beyond!
