After my first counseling session, I already feel like I'm moving in the right direction. I feel that I'm going to be learning a lot about myself and how I interact with others.Jan 31, 2018Verified
About this pro
All counselors can counsel couples, but I have been specifically trained to do that. I am trained in all of the three nationally top ranked relationship therapies: Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Imago Relationship Therapy. Ilene Bosscher, MA, MDiv, PTC is a marriage and family therapist who understands relationships and marriages and what can go wrong with them, as well as how to get things back on track and restore the peace and love that defined your marriage years ago. Ilene has been trained in all of the top three nationally ranked marital therapies: Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Imago as well as many others that are lesser known. Ilene is a mother of five grown children, seven grandchildren, and a wife. She understands parenting, the challenges of a busy professional life, and the consequent effects on the marital relationship. She has also served as the President of the Greater Louisville Medical Society Alliance, an experience that has left her uniquely equipped to care for marriages of doctors and other busy professionals. With over 15 years experience as a Counseling Pastor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and as a graduate of The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and MidAmerica Nazarene University, Ilene Bosscher brings to the table a wealth a experience, knowledge, and expertise that can help you and your spouse restore the love that once was. In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Ilene is also a highly sought-after play therapist and serves as President of the Kentucky Association for Play Therapy. Play therapy is a respected evidence-based means of engaging and helping children who have trouble directly communicating about their emotional difficulties. If your child is struggling with emotional or behavioral difficulties, and having trouble communicating the cause and/or nature of their struggle, play therapy may be very helpful. I enjoy working with couples, individuals, and families who usually come to me bewildered of what is not working with their relationships. And then in a few sessions they not only have identified what is not working for them but now they and understand why it isn't and how to change to have effective and peaceful interactions.

Q & A
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The first session I introduce myself and give a brief orientation to the counseling process. I have the clients introduce themselves and explain their situation. Then instead of the clients filling out lots of paperwork we together create a clinical diagram of their families and the relationships within them and any relevant issues. I find my clients enjoy this and come away with a deeper understanding of their families, relationships and the context of their lives.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Beyond the Masters degrees that I have earned, I have extensive training in relationship therapies that are based on research of the past 40 years. They are very effective and help people understand themselves within the context of their relationships and families.
