Hired on Thumbtack
While Mr. Truitt is a very nice guy, I was not happy at all regarding his work...and after a 7 month tug-of-war; I had to terminate our contract. (When I signed the contract with Truitt, I was told it would take 2 to 3 months to complete.) Just some of the issues I had with him are:
1. Metal roof was installed improperly, without any water proofing tape. He did go back and try to repair the roof, but it still was not done according to manufactures installation instructions.
2. Siding was installed improperly; there were huge gaps in all the J-channels. He did have his guys go back and repair this. He would not do it at my request; he only did it after my bank's inspector told him he had to. However, there are still some places in the siding that are done wrong.
3. The lack of presence on the job
4. Many of my personal items were broken or damaged. (Patio table, bench seat, porch light, handrail on porch, etc.)
5. The use of my personal items. His men decided to enter into my garage without my permission and use my tools. I just happen to come by in the middle of the day and caught his guys digging in my garage. (Wheel barrows, shovels, etc.) I even had my wheel barrow stolen by Truitt Construction. I had to short pay him on one draw to replace my wheel barrow which they would/could/did not bring back.
6. Not following the engineers drawings, including the federally mandated hurricane proofing code for new construction, because he felt that it was an "overkill." He did go back to try to bring it up to code, but it is still not done properly.
There was a list a mile long of all the things I was not happy about. I hear from others that he has done just fine at other jobs, but for some reason we could not see eye to eye on this job. Mr. Truitt argues that a lack of funding contributed to our disagreements, but I donât see how it could contribute to shoddy workmanship. I just couldnât seem to get him to understand that this bank funded project is paid AFTER work is completed, but he consistently wanted money upfront.
