- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first lesson is a meet and greet that begins with a brief discussion of your goals and interests. As a young beginner, we play a lot of rhythm games and gradually apply them to the drums. I watch the student play what he/she has learned or can play and make my own curriculum according to their abilities.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing the drums since I was 9 years old. I began formal instruction at the age of 11 and led my own rock band from ages 12-14 as the lead singer and drummer. In high school, I began more rigorous instruction in jazz and classical percussion with experiences in musical pit orchestras, percussion ensembles, and various student groups. I received a Carnegie Hall Young Performers Award in my junior year as well as a Outstanding Soloist Award at the Lawrenceville High School Jazz Festival. After receiving scholarships to Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, University of Miami Frost School of Music and Loyola University New Orleans, I decided to move to New Orleans and begin my jazz studies. There, I performed with big bands, rock/funk/hip-hop groups, and performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest on numerous occasions. I received my Bachelors in Arts in English with a minor in Music Industry Studies.
