FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The only additional fees that I have for my general lesson rate in quotes is for my travel expenses to a student's location if they cannot travel to my studio. My travel expense is the calculated gas cost to and from the student's location.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I personally do & always encourage my students to cross-reference playing/singing techniques that I teach them with what other instructors are saying online, & to bring any questions they may have to the next lesson. Bottom line: The person you trust to teach you will have certain aspects they prefer, but it's always okay to check a second opinion as well & see what your teacher says! I always try to emphasize technique that is natural for your body, relaxed and not tense/strained (so you never hurt yourself, which is the worst thing for a performer) while sounding your very best in performance.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was torn between majoring in music and marine science before entering college, I also love the science of marine life and scuba diving. I took a trip to the Georgia aquarium & noticed there were many divers working with the whale sharks/other fish in the tanks. I asked the aquarium director what it took to work with the animals and he said that most marine biologists never even end up working (hands on) with the fish and aquarium maintenance, they mostly do microscope analysis & desk research, while mostly dive instructors and volunteers are the ones that actually have all the fun! For me, that was the nail in the coffin on that career. I need to actively help or engage with something or someone in my job to feel life satisfaction and knew music was "the one" for me after all.
