- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The initial consultation involves an interview in which I find out the student's previous music experiences, favorite types of music, long and short-term goals, other hobbies/commitments and amount of time available for lessons. If the student is a child, I interview the parent(s)/caregiver to determine appropriate placement in group or individual lessons. During the practical portion of the consult, I assess the student's current ability on the instrument and (based on the student's level and personality) whether I feel I am a good match to teach the student. If the student (or parent) and I decide to continue lessons (even on a trial basis), I assign materials and a plan for practice and progress. If we decide I am not the right teacher (for any reason), I can usually refer the student to a friend or colleague in my professional network. There is no charge for this initial assessment.
