About
Hinako Sato is an accomplished pianist with over 23 years of performance experience, currently offering private piano lessons for students of all ages/levels in Greater Boston area. --- My teaching style is tailored very much to each individual's needs and goals. I do use some textbooks (especially for younger children), but as I get to know the students better, I create exercises and sheet music that are customized just for that student, so it really is a unique learning experience for each one of them. I am also committed to making learning music fun and exciting for all ages, from 5 years old to working professionals and beyond. Music is borderless and it's always a good time to start taking lessons at any age, at any level. I play games with younger children a lot, and I introduce a lot of contemporary music to teenagers and adult students. Through music that they know and are familiar with, I introduce and teach new concepts and theory, etc. Through teaching piano and music, I hope to not only guide students so that they learn how to play their favorite songs, but also invite them to a path of long term learning and enjoyment. I am here to help students and discover together how they could better practice, and what daily steps they can take in order to achieve their individual goals. The rest is up to them to absorb them, and to dive in, but I strive to make a difference, to inspire, and to have fun together. I teach any styles of music from classical, jazz, pop, rock, funk, gospel, world music, to name a few. As I said above, music is really borderless, and it is another form of communication. It's another language and it is universal! For me, learning and teaching piano isn't just about going over how and when to press the keys on the piano. It is also empowering and encouraging students through the power of music and through acquiring new set of skills... hoping that the students can go beyond their current limitations while broadening their horizons and expanding interests. I believe music has the power to move/change people in ways other things in this world can't. So if I can help guide students through the journey of becoming a better self through music, that is something that gives me immense joy and I feel that it is a gift I share with people around me.

I took a few piano lessons with Hinako, I am a beginner and Hinako was patient and encouraging, she also cared about my learning goals including making sure I get to play one of my favorite songs of John Legend :_). Really enjoyed training with her. I'd definitely recommend her as a teacher for

I have been learning piano from Hinako for approximately a year and I think she is a fantastic teacher. I had some experience playing the piano prior but wanted to take classes to improve my technique. Additionally I was trained classically and wanted to move over to more jazz improvisation. She really got me on the right track and I feel like I have made a lot of progress over the last year. She encourages me to interpret the music and move outside my comfort zone with improvisation. Additionally, she gives clear instruction and helps me set achievable goals. In the last year I have been able to perform in front of small groups of people which is something I had struggled with in the past. I recommend her as a piano teacher.

Hinako personalized each piano lesson to my level and interests. She helped me choose songs that would not only improve my skills, but that I would also love to play. She is a talented musician and her love for music shows through her teaching.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I would normally send them a questionnaire for them to fill out or have a brief consultation over the phone to find out what his/her background is, and what their needs are. Then I determine at the first lesson what the appropriate course of action is going forward, including the materials, etc.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Berklee College of Music. My studies in college focused on Piano Performance, Music Business and Management, and Art History/Music History. I have been playing piano from age 5 and have 23+ years of experience performing in various settings. My background is primarily contemporary, but I had a formal classical training in FL and also at Berklee as well.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with children from age 5 and up, all the way to teenagers. I also work with college students, young professionals, and professionals of all ages as well as the retired. I have worked with people of various musical background, from an absolute beginner to aspiring young musicians to hobbyists.
