About
I am a musician who has graduated from world class Conservatories such as the Oberlin Conservatory where I received my Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy, and the Boston Conservatory where I received my Masters Degree and Graduate Performance Diploma in Piano Performance. I have had incredible teachers and mentors like Peter Takacs, Spencer Myer, Gabriel Chodos, Michael Lewin, Yafei Chuang. With their guidance I have gained incredible knowledge about piano technique, musical phrasing, musical thinking, collaborating, and I have been able to be an inspiration to my students by passing to them all I have learned. As a participant at the Aspen Music Festival, I have seen marvelous performances of world renowned musicians, and that has enabled me to understand the beauty and complexity of music even more. Being exposed to such talent has given me even greater sensitivity and knowledge as a piano teacher. I am a native of the country of Bulgaria where I have been taught by the Russian school of piano teaching, which is very successful, methodical and inspiring. I love to see how much my students learn and how incredibly excited and thrilled they are when they have achieved their goal. I really enjoy listening to my students perform and I am always hugely proud.

Deyana is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and patient. It is easy to find good piano players in Boston, but hard to find someone who is able to teach well as well. I would recommend her to anyone looking for piano lessons.

I haven't played the piano in over a decade. Deyana figured out my level of experience and started teaching to my ability and in just a few lessons I am playing better than ever before with improving technique and musical expression. She is organized, patient, and knowledgeable about the instrument and the repertoire. The lessons are both rigorous and fun. I really lucked out given this was a pretty random way to find a piano teacher. I highly recommend Deyana. She is a fantastic musician and teacher!

I came to Deyana having played a little piano already but after only four lessons my confidence and skill have very much improved. She's helped me better the basic techniques I thought I'd grasped and encouraged me to pursue music I didn't think I was ready to play. Incredibly patient, she allows the student to work through mistakes without worry, which along with her obvious passion for music makes each lesson enjoyable and worthwhile. Deyana's a great teacher.

Deyana is an excellent teacher. I started to learn keyboard before primary school and was acquainted with various kinds of music teachers. Deyana is the one who can grab the core sense of each music as well as your talent and inspire you to express your inner music world with the technique she provided you. I am used to play double-keyboard for over a decade and wanted to explore piano pieces, therefore modification of my technique is necessary. Deyana successfully recognized what is needed and encouraged me to keep improving throughout our lessons. Don't miss this great teacher if you want to learn piano.

My experience with Deyana has been fantastic. I came to her as a beginner, and with her help I've learned the basics of the piano and music reading quite quickly. Deyana is incredibly efficient and our lessons are highly productive. Her instruction goes beyond teaching accuracy and precision in piano playing. With an emphasis on stylistic techniques she has taught me to play beautifully. Thanks to her instruction, I've fallen in love with the instrument and am highly motivated to continue practicing and improving.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I come from a musical family- my mother and brother are violinists, my father is a bassoonist, and my grandmother was one of the most well known and cherished folklore singers in Bulgaria- Nadka Karadjova. Since I was a little girl I have been exposed to my mother's orchestra's performances in Bulgaria, to my brother's playing and grandmother's singing. Music is in my blood, in my soul and my whole being, and I have been always destined to become a musician. While I was getting my Bachelor's Degree at the Oberlin Conservatory, I began to teach secondary piano lessons to other instrumentalists and singers at the conservatory. I slowly began to love and truly appreciate the art of teaching. I realized how special it was to inspire others to play and love the music that I love, how challenging and rewarding it was to unravel secrets about a piece of music together with the student. I started learning a great deal about my piano playing and my musical thought by observing how my students play and work on their music. By helping my students improve I was also helping myself improve. I started to love teaching even more when I began to work with children. There is no greater satisfaction for a teacher than to see their little ones learn to play with curved fingers, learn to read bass clef, learn to play with both hands together at the same time. And finally, there is no greater joy for a teacher than to see their little students' first piano recital ever; to see the excitement and slight worry on their faces before they perform; to see the happiness and bliss on their faces after they have performed with their heart and have played so beautifully.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

My future students should know that I am musician who is not only recognized as a solo and collaborative pianist, but I am also recognized as a respected piano pedagogue. I have received the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Student Achievement Recognition Award for 2010 in recognition of excellency in academic achievement, successful teaching experience and demonstrated leadership abilities. I am also recipient of the Carol Nott Piano Pedagogy Prize as selected by the Oberlin Conservatory Faculty (see pictures above).
