Carl is exactly the kind of balanced tutor I was looking for to support my 9-year-old son in reading comprehension and writing. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, brings humor to each session to keep it engaging, and still maintains a strong sense of structure and discipline. We’re still early in the process, but I’ve already noticed improvement. I’m really looking forward to seeing my sons continued growth over the next few months as we prepare for 5th grade.

Mr. Carl is good with children, he has taught my daughter about concepts in math, her times tables, her grades went from failing to passing and avoiding summer school. My daughter can sit through and hour of learning and doesn’t get bored. She learns new concepts and masters them with king two weeks. My daughter’s confidence levels went up and she participated more in class.

My son has been working with Carl for about six months now
He has improved his grades and reading level tremendously. I love the way Carl teaches with him and doesn’t let him get away with anything very easily.
From a reading and language arts perspective, Carl has been great!

Carl has been working with my son, Brayden, for over a year, and the progress we’ve seen has been incredible. From the very beginning, Carl demonstrated patience, dedication, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. He has done an amazing job guiding Brayden, especially in his writing skills. We’ve seen a significant improvement—not just in Brayden’s writing ability, but also in his confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
Carl’s personalized approach and consistent support have truly made a difference. We are so grateful for the impact he has had on Brayden’s academic journey.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
[My services are VIRTUAL ONLY.]
I am open to reducing my hourly fee if the total amount of weekly tutoring time is 90 minutes or more.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
[My services are VIRTUAL ONLY.]
I begin with a telephone conversation during which the client and I discuss his/her specific needs and goals and the ways in which I can help realize them. We then schedule a first lesson during which we get to know one another and feel comfortable working together. The lesson can take place at the client's home, office or a nearby cafe/coffeeshop.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) in history and European literature. My coursework in college required of me to devote extensive time to reading and writing, and this process strengthened my ability to articulate my ideas in writing and speaking in a precise, sophisticated and succinct fashion.
I have a Master's degree in Education from Lesley University (Cambridge, MA). My coursework there along with my classroom practicum/internship experience instilled in me tremendous insight into the quailities and work habits that make one an effective teacher.
In my 35-year teaching career, I have worked as a Grade 4 classroom teacher, a history teacher to Grades 6-9 (American, European, Asian, and ancient history), a library studies teacher, a children's drama teacher and theater director, and a school communications writer and editor.
