Introduction: I have ten years of experience as a freelance writer and editor, and am also a college writing instructor. I have an MFA from Emerson College and an agented nonfiction manuscript I'm submitting for publication. I have provided developmental editing, copyediting, and line editing to dozens of individuals with projects ranging from book-length manuscripts to website content and dissertations. I have known Katie since 2013 and have benefited greatly from her expertise as a fellow writer. Many editors can point out the awkward phrase, the confusing paragraph or the bland sentence structure. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I am flexible in my pricing, and am happy to offer discounts for longer projects.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to understand the objectives and the vision for the project before we begin working together. I typically start with a 30-minute phone call with the customer to get a sense for their needs. Then I put together a proposal for the work we'll do together. This includes a breakdown of costs, the type(s) of editing and/or writing I'll be doing, and a timeline of when the work will get done.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MFA in creative nonfiction from Emerson College, as well as a BA in English from Tufts University.
