Introduction: I do 3D character animation, key frame/motion capture, and choreography.
Animation and choreography are in my blood. While many animators take up a performance skill to improve their understanding of movement, I came to animation from a life-long background in dynamic live performance and choreography.
Through animation, I realized that in performing and teaching in various forms and styles, I had been doing key frame animation with full-scale human beings. There are no differences between performance and the principles of animation*.
My approach to animation appreciates both key frame and motion capture.
- Key frame animation allows for wonderfully stylized animation beyond what any real-world technique could accomplish.
- Motion capture allows for animal realism, multiple takes, and an accelerated production pipeline.
At various points in any production, people need to understand an ideas in their own vernacular. I have been able to effectively communicate with clients across a wide range of industries and backgrounds to understand their needs by combining my animation, performance, and technical expertise. This understanding also lead to improvements in techniques, production processes, as well as hardware and software.
